I just finished the campaign in the last 8 hours. I have to say, even as i was not expecting Homeworld 3 to be the same amazing experiance as the first part had been 20 years ago, i didn't expected it to be so underwhealming. It is an extremely beautifull game and i cant remember a space strategy game that has such iconic cinematic moments and they really got that cinematic apperiance done at every corner, but the story of the campain is most generic, which i find pretty sad. But what is actually worse, is the AI of the units, handeling the space environment... I had a lot of difficulties with units, that got stuck, and this made the game nearely unplayeble in some missions. I at least twice had to switch into story-mode to finish it, which is s joke, cause actually, the missions aren't that hard. Still, i don't regret buying it! I just hope they will be ablte to fix this in one of the future updates...

Homeworld 1 and 2 are in my top ten favourite gaming experiences of all time. Even aside from the gameplay, the music and story was jawdropping. However, even if HL3 is the greatest game ever made, I would not give Gearbox one penny again. Which is a shame since I would have really wanted to play it.

@@RuLeZ1988 It might just be a personal moral thing with me. Randy Pitchford is a terrible human being with a sordid history and I do not want to give money to people like that. That being said, they are also one of the worst companies when it comes to terrible monetisation practices and push questionable game design decisions just to fleece you later on down the line, but like I said, it probably is just a very personal thing to me. Come to think of it, now that I watched some reviews the game was never going to appeal to me anyway since I loved the originals for their story/campaign and from what I can tell people are saying this is the weak part of this latest rendition.

The mothership was not stationary in Homeworld 2 at the very least. It wasn't fast, but it could move and jump during play.

I think he was talking about the mothership being rotatable? Some shots it's horizontal and some shots it's vertical. Very cool!

Yes, and in the remastered version pack the Mothership is mobile in HW1 as well as in HW2

Everything in hw3 is off, been playing 1 & 2 for awhile, nothing about HW3 is homeworld but in name, they seriously screwed it up

I've been a fan of this series for 25 years: the story line, the aesthetic quality, and the moody ambience supported by some of the best soundtracks in the business, and which redefined what an RTS space game can really do. Few space RTS come close...and it looks like the Mothership has arrived again.

This looks great! I grew up with the spinoff "Homeworld: Cataclysm" (or now Emergence), and in that your capital ship kicks more ass. But I also love the classic Homeworld look of this one.

The bentusi had the first core for thousands of years, the vagar also had access to one. Seems a little odd to suddenly just be able to replace these keystone pieces of technology when the more advanced bentusi couldn't after thousands of years of use. Unless all 3 cores need to be brought together to decipher.

Any news on if the regular skirmish mode Ai is worth playing against? The deserts of Kharak (and cataclysm back in the day) were abominable and this made my usual post-completion foray into skirmish utterly pointless

They have to plan those in advance. Keeps the writers and artists, mission designers, and other folks working after their contributions to the release version are done. Doesn't make sense to do it any other way.

Never ever is HW3 going to live up to the nostalgia and hype around it, but it seems like the devs really captured the game's spirit again and even if it might always be the least of the 3, it looks smexy as hell. I hope it’s good but the demo was so out of touch with what I wanted that I’m waiting for a sale as much because the dlc is based around that tiny-fleet mode as because the purchase price is insane. I refuse to reward people who “showcase a sequel” by using a mode no one had seen before that’s anathema to the core idea (large, thoughtful engagements with a persistent fleet and forced you WANT to preserve (hw2 “dynamic-punishment” difficulty nonsense aside) as you fought long and hard to build them up from nothing.

I've been playing the Homeworld series for nearly 25 years, placing it as my #1 RTS of all time! What was always one of the coolest factors (art wise) in the game, was the inclusion of the Mega-Ships in the background. I ALWAYS found myself wondering what the dimensions in MILES each structure had. It just added to the "AWE-FACTOR" of the game. The thing I loved about the very first game was the shear LONELINESS of that was conveyed to the player. I'm extremely happy that the different versions of the series all have their own feel, so that you can go back time and time again to play how you're feeling at the moment. RIBBIT, ObsidianAnt! Another FUNTASTIC review!!!

Good game, but the consumer value is not there. This is a 20 hour game for most and for the premium price, it doesn’t feel right. I wish i would have waited a year to play it on sale. They also need to fix ship speed. Anytime you got a mothership faster than a destroyer or battle cruiser they you have a balance problem.

Slight spoiler, the game play feels very much like a cross between homeworld 2, homeworld dok and a little of homeworld mobile, the missions kind of remind me of homeworld 2 more than any other game with that asteroid mission being something from homeworld 1 but the game itself, well it feels like its regressed a lot from the previous games, a lot less ships, no sub systems so a bit less strategy in gameplay, everything feels very stream lined and slimmed down, not sure if its because BBI was going bankrupt or they didnt want to invest much time or money into the game but if you have your hopes up while playing, you will be dissapointed unfortunately. Campaign is too short, the war game mode is not for me, i dont think many people like that kind of co op limited game play and the faction diversity is worse then the first homeworld game, wish i didnt buy it personally and i was a huge fan since 1999!!!!

I dont think its entirely true that the Mothership is stationary. Like, you can FTL the mothership around the map, at least in the 2nd game? But still, your point stands, HW3 gives you a lot more freedom over the mothership.
