It's wild that even the "small" vehicles in this game are huge by modern Earth standards. If you look in the model viewer, those tires are taller than a full grown man!

It speaks volumes about the fanbase of Homeworld that there is videos on youtube that contain nothing but the radio chatter of a single armored vehicle from DoK! Possibly the most faithful fans out of any franchise!

I loved Homeworld as a kid and played the crap out of it, but our old 98 couldn't run Homeworld 2 so it was years before I finally played it... man I love Homeworld as a franchise and DoK is no exception... I can't wait for HW3!

not to take away from your comment since it's still pretty true. but a lot of fanbases for RTS games do this, I wouldn't really say it "speaks volumes" lol

The fact that there is so much variety of purely casual radio chatter shows how much the devs cared about the project

Deserts of Kharak really deserves more credit and players than it gets. It’s a fantastic game. There’s also so much potential like an alternative campaign with another carrier fighting around Tiir to repel the Gaalsien invasion. That’s just asking for cool additional features like infantry for taking, holding, and breaching buildings in an urban setting. They could be transported by LAVs to give LAVs a legitimate role in the end game, and maybe air assault infantry could be transported by some sort of gunship. I would love to also see a combat overhaul with close-in weapons systems being able to intercept missiles, anti-air artillery for point defense, and area denial surface to air missiles.

This sort of thing is a great motivation to remember there are humans in these vehicles. I do my best to minimize casualties to my forces and by the end game resort only to cruisers because those suffer fewer losses. In my last campaign I finished with probably around 300-400 casualties based on the vehicle crew sizes from the Expedition Guide. The Kapisi’s full complement is over 1,000- Which is actually very small compared to modern carriers, which regularly have 5,000 souls on board.

I love the idea of a minimum casualties run.

Best "ground" based RTS ever made. And Blackbird is the best game developer on the planet.

Radio chatter is such an iconic element of Homeworld games I think. Space, and the desert, are both very quiet and lifeless places to be, and often in the times when there is no combat going on you'll be left in silence. Having your units talk to one another however injects that much needed life into those moments, and in general makes things feel alive.

I Feel OPs on an emotional Level
@ArtypNk2 жыл бұрын
The biggest most emotional thing in gaming for me was in Homeworld, when you send some fighters into a situation that is too hairy, and they are taking heavy losses very quickly, you will hear one of them go "Equatorial hells...". The tone, the annunciation, it was all so perfect and impactful. To this day, when I get overwhelmed in real life, instead of a classic "Fuck..." I pull out the "Equatorial hells!"

They recorded all that dialogue just for the sake of atmosphere and verisimilitude of the units. Uncompromising position towards their vision, it's why these games leave a mark on you.
