My only issue with demos like this, is it appears that nothing is recycled, the framing could have been use for some woodworking projects and then the bricks could have been reused also, to recycle, it just seems to be ' too hard' best regards from Australia, Les
@Calamity_Jack4 ай бұрын
I agree, Les, but it's probably a question of economics. Paying someone(s) to sort through all that stuff, only for it to sell for a paltry sum (recycled materials don't sell for much here in the states), if it sells at all, just doesn't make financial sense, especially on such a small building. They'd end up losing money. They probably pick out the bigger, more valuable metal items to recycle and the rest ends up in a landfill. It's an unfortunate situation, but it's the reality here at this time. Plus, we don't know the backstory on this property. Maybe it was condemned due to bio-hazard, mold, termite damage, etc. Nobody in their right mind would want materials from a house like that. Or possibly, the land underneath the house became worth a lot of money so the owners were bought out and the new buyers want the property cleared ASAP so they can build on it. Waiting days or weeks for salvagers to pick over the house would, again, cost them time and money. Yes, it would be the "right thing to do", but money talks...

@tombiggs46874 ай бұрын
My new neighbor bought a tired single-story house across the street from us. He wanted to knock it down - it really was structurally weak - but the township only approved a renovation. To "keep the character of the house in the neighborhood", he was to keep the florida room at the front of the house intact. So one day I look out the window, and see him with a chainsaw cutting the walls and roof just behind the florida room. Access to the lot was tight. 15 feet to the neighbor's hedge on the one side, a steep-ish hill on the other. The next day I saw a *giant* excavator show up. (t could easily have been a Cat 323, I don't know.) I watched as they got to work. It reached over and around the florida room to tear off piece after piece of the house. When done, only the florida room was left standing! He had followed the "letter of the law", but not the spirit of the law. He was already framing out the two-story house he built behind the florida room when the code officer saw it. He was kind of pissed, but he passed it. The filed plans showed everything my neighbor had intended to do, they just didn't realize how he'd do it. 😜
