Homilies for Busy People: Worth Every Effort! Mark 6:30-34 Sixteenth Sunday Ordinary Time
The important things in life are worth every effort, especially when it comes down to our spiritual life. Has it ever happened to you that whenever you wanted to install a new appliance or an internet modem or whatever thing that implies assembly and connections, even though you try and even follow the manual, something falls through and you can’t get it working? And you try and put apart and put back together again and again and nothing? That’s the turning point between giving up or keep trying. And sometimes it’s just out of frustration that we keep figuring out different ways to get it working until then it works!
Our spiritual life is like that.
That’s why in the Gospel today we see a clear example of how Jesus and the apostles go around the sea of Galilee in a boat; but the people who I guess didn’t have a boat, they didn’t give up. They walked and found a way around to find Jesus.
And what does Jesus do?
He feels moved and starts teaching them many things. The important things in life are worth every effort; especially when it comes down to our spiritual life. So, just like the movie line says “never give up , never surrender,” (Galaxy Quest) you too, when looking for Jesus, never give up, never surrender, cause after all as we see in the Gospel, something will give.
