Homily: Finding Jesus in Your Fears | Fr. Mathias Thelen

In this homily given Sunday June 23, 2024, Fr Mathias preaches on the gospel of Jesus calming the wind and the waves. The disciples were afraid because they didn't yet believe in Jesus as the Lord of creation who was present in their boat. While it's normal for us to be afraid when we perceive a threat or a danger in our lives, Father challenges us to look for the presence of Jesus in the midst of such dangers (the storms of our lives) and place our faith in him. Only in such faith in his presence will we have the courage to resist the temptation to jump out of the boat into the very dangers we're afraid of.

PS. Father Thelen. You forgot to mention that the boat got to the other side! A very critical and pertinent fact. That means if we get in the "boat" (read Church) we also get to the other side; we don't drown or sink.

The Church as an institution is damaged goods for the moment. Don't get distracted by all the noise. Just focus on the treasure of the 2,000 year+ faith and continue to go to Mass etc. Everything leads to the Eucharist and gives Catholics to go out and continue with strength and faith. Good luck.
