I am a 57 year old gay woman and ex-Christian. And while I've never been through gay conversion therapy before, I did experience a so-called " deliverance" in church many years ago because I was having what I thought was " unwanted same sex desires." I never did live the gay lifestyle, though, but being delivered from the " sin" of homosexuality obviously didn't work because I am still gay, and I still desire other women. As a result, I am no longer a Christian, and I never really did believe in God. If God loves us all as unconditionally as he claims, then why won't he accept us for who we are? This video proves that we are much stronger than we think, and if we can get through the abuse that the church inflicts on us, we can get through anything. Many hugs to the people in this video for telling their stories. Be brave, and never stop being who you are. ❤

As a gay man in my early 20s, I too had tried going straight by attending a weekly group of other gay and lesbian Christians. Fortunately, there was never any violence nor threat of violence. I can’t imagine how those young people in those conversion camps must have felt. My heart goes out to each of them, and I pray they find the peace and love they so richly deserve.❤️

The fact that some conversions are based on the idea that homosexuals hate the opposite sex because they were abused is sickening. I'm sure that some people actually used that as a psychological defense mechanism for their own mental health. But in that case, like many other psychological traumas you can deal with it with a psychotherapy. It has nothing to do with being gay. I'm gay and i've never hated women. I've never been abused either. I've always felt that way since i can remember. I'm not saying either that I was born that way either. I think it is more complicated than what we are able to understand right now. Maybe it's genetics, maybe it develops during the first years of childhood when the main features of one's personality are built. But even if this is the case, you cannot change who you have become. Those features are part of the core of who you are. If you are heterosexual and don't understand that, ask yourself if you could become gay and only gay.

1988 Oprah had a show on conversion therapy but the lesbian and gay people talking said their life was NOT the same hell as trans kids in those camps. I was a different kid. Biological intersex, raised female, shoved into a dress Southern baptist school and church Sunday morning and night. I got to skip wed because it was a workday for my christian dad and I struggled so much at school. My parents knew I was different and so did I but what I KNEW already biological intersex was don't talk about any of it to anyone including parents. There is some value in insisting the child refrain from sexual penetration until the age of 18 whether trans, intersex, gay, lesbian or straight and if it can't be stopped use protection. The best protection is abstinence boys, girls and others like me. The promiscuity of gay lifestyle rampant with multiple sexual partners could be a valid concern for a parent. Its pretty clear from straight men who have female multiple partners its chaos crossing and sharing emotions and beds with more than one person at a time but with evangelical Trump as a president very ok and celebrated now. No way to explain monogamy to a young gay boy if you are a Christian parent. Unlike me intersex shoved into a dress, a child turns to who they trust most and up until their disclosure, they trusted their parents. Biological intersex I didn't trust my parents because they let doctors probe. Lucky I didn't have major surgery as a baby, toddler, child or teen. Christians say trans kids should never have surgery? I say if there is the old Harry Benjamin Standard lookback from toddlerhood forward and a 7 year "documented" history of gender dysphoria prior to puberty, then puberty blockers and cross sex hormones but wait until 18 for surgery. Most detrans people had no waiting period but held other deep psychiatric problems not truly trans and no history since toddlerhood. I also say healthy biological intersex babies, toddlers and teens shouldn't have surgery either and the christian hypocrisy of that is insanity. Further hypocrisy for christians to claim its the parents right to send their kid to conversion therapy but claim parents supportive unconditional love of a true gender dysphoric child is child abuse and Texas was enforcing laws to remove those kids from their homes causing kids like Kai Shappley to flee TX with her mom. Christians ARE responsible for damage done to LGBTQI community while the New Testament doesn't have much to say on the subject. The Old Testament and Jewish law did. Muslim LGBTQI usually have family back in the Middle East to ship the kids back and dispose of them that way. Tribes like the massai featured in Matt Walsh "What is a woman" are so entrenched in gender roles when they come to live in the U.S. and mutilate their little girl's genitals they are usually held responsible for child abuse. Kudos to the activists exposing the hypocrisy and the legislative progress they have made. Its hard to live a good life damaged deeply by your parents. It happens to straight kids too...just not at the frequency of LGBTQI kids. Find that one partner who will stick with and by you. Live your life in America knowing this time even if Trump retakes the presidency again, human rights violations will be heard for history to record.
