I actually have a Klemm Research pipe, silencer and 2 cylinders for an 88 Suzuki LT250R. I was sponsored by them from 88-90 along with Sean Finley, Mark Ehrhardt, and Shannon Smith. I won the Denver Mile High Stadium MTGP 250 ATV main event in 89 with a Klemm Research National motor package. They were a great co. and I truly appreciate their support for my racing career.

I have a hand made Klemm pipe! Slightly different than the one you have, I’m currently rebuilding my entire engine right now with everything internally brand new. Only thing I’m using from when I got my 250R is the cylinder. It’s bored out 1.25 over stock and sounded great when I first got it. The piston was broke and the exhaust only had one spring holding it to the cylinder with no packing in the silencer but still sounded so good for what it was. Cant wait to hear it! I threw it in the fire pit and burnt all the oil out then got some frayed steel cable to get every speck of dried oil out as well as remove any rust. 2-3 weeks and I should be able to fire it up for the first time in a year! I never even got to ride the bike because the day after I got it I found out both cases were broken so I immediately tore it apart

So Mike if you're going to go Moto with this 87 250R, the number one thing that most guys did on that model year was the shrink the swingarm one inch. 1988 and 89 models came with a 1 inch shorter swingarm because the factory Racers were always complaining that the 86/87 was having a tendency to slide out around corners. I could tell from the video that that's the same problem you're having, it gets a little too far and you have to bring it back in. The shorter swingarm makes the Quad much more nimble it does get a little light on the front wheels but it's definitely a wash because it's a lot easier to control that then try to stop yourself from spinning out in corners... 😀
@neo-americanrevolution3324 жыл бұрын
Did you know that even tho they shortened the swingarm they stretched the frame to make up fpr it. Not disputing what your saying but didnt know of you knew the quad was still the same length.

That klemm sounds awesome though man I love those little rare pieces of moto history. Best piece of history I had was probably a 1986 ktm 80MX that had the factory performance exhaust from KTM, heavy shock in rear that was adjustable, bunch of other cool little things like that. I got it completely dead got it running great had intentions in restoring it but couldn't find anything for it anywhere other than Australia, piston for an 80 was like 200 bucks.. I gave up and sold it to a KTM collector that had all the other stuff to make the bike 100% again. Miss it like no other best 80 I've ever ridden most power for sure.

I had a Klemm Research competition ported '87 250R AND then a 300cc Klemm Big bore kit, back in 88. Both ripped and sounded amazing but the 300 kit was a local quadzilla killa. First time out it ripped 3 out of 4 holeshots at Hyman Myers Speedway in Tallahassee Fl. I wasn't known for pulling holeys so, the questions immediately started flying who did the Big Block work on my "R"!! I just laughed... Great videos/quad builds on the channel, thanks for the trip down memory lane, cheers.

If your worried about the bike sounding stock, it doesn't. It sounds like it's got a good pipe on it. Its period correct and imo, until you reveal your new bore size, its good. The bike runs crisp but I know power comes from cubes. I think the pipe and silencer should stay. Sounds amazing in the woods. Not best sounding at rear of quad but it barks on the reverb!
