Its an axle paddle installed to bite into the high center part of ruts and force the machine forwards.. Been around a decade or two now but only installed on mud machines..

We had a 300 2wd it was a beast. Now we have rancher 350 early 2000 models with electronic shift and have never had an issue. Honda makes some reliable stuff. Not much on power but I’m overloaded pulling farm equipment, had water over the handlebars several times, wrecked it more times than I can remember. Oil and air filter changes and you won’t ever have to buy another unless you just want to.

Idk the 300 is light as I own one as well and very reliable and super low maintenance expense I don't disagree the 500 Foreman is a great machine I've had 2 of them they're heavy and I've had to replace a lot of parts unlike the 300 that I've beat to death still works fine I will say the 500 is a nicer ride takes the soaks up the terrain when every thing is working properly

The class rules required at least a 34” tire. There were plenty of 1000 Polaris and Can Ams that raced that day. None finished with a time faster that that 300.
