Honda Accord Cabin Filter Replacement

How to replace a Honda Accord cabin filters:
In this DIY video, I will show where the cabin filter is located and how to replace it. This tutorial applies to Accords from 1998 to 2002. Some components may be difficult to pull out and you may need to pull and tug harder so don't get discouraged if you have a bit of a hard time removing them. The reward of replacing your own Accord's cabin filters is, of course, the money will you save compares to bringing it to have it serviced which is around $60-$100. If you have any difficulties, leave me a comment and I will try my best to get back to you as soon as I can.
Please note that the actual cabin filter was not changed.
Tools you will need:
- Electric screwdriver or regular screwdriver
- A small Phillips screwdriver
Directions:
Step 1: Remove the lower right side panel thathas two screws
Step 2: Remove the center console dash cover
Step 3: Remove the glovebox lower panel
Step 4: Remove the 5 screws that hold the glovebox and the lower glovebox support
Step 5: Open the glove box and remove the 2 screw covers
Step 6: Remove the top 4 screws
Step 7: Slowly remove the glovebox by pulling up and towards you
Step 8: Remove the cabin filter cover and pull the cabin filter trays out
Step 9: Replace the cabin filters
Step 10: Reinstall all parts in reverse order

Mine was twice as difficult because I had to remove my center console, because the tape deck frame was screwed through that lower plastic dashboard cover. Man that's a lot of work just to change the filter. Now it seems like the aircon is more powerful and free flowing.

Also, I lost the 1st & 2nd speeds on the fan apparently due to dirty filters causing the resistor to overheat. Replacing the resistor fixed that. Thanks again.

holy shit. I just changed mine and they are BLACK. I bought the car about 6 months ago with 183,000 miles, now with 191,000 and I'm pretty certain they are the original ones. BUT There was no metal bar to cut in mine like I've heard from a few others. Thanks for the informative work up video. It saved me TONS of time.

Just done this job on my car very helpful video. Be aware that if they have never been replaced like mine, though car has full service history, the Phillips screws at either end of the long metal bracket that goes across the 'filter door' are very tight from factory, I used a good fitting screw bit and a socket wrench, a screwdriver would have damaged screw heads first. Apart from this minor irritation a straight forward job that has made so much difference to airflow from vents.

dammit, my freakin filter had more dirt than you can imagine, a freakin environmental hazard for real. I thought my ac was workin great before, i can imagine what it would do now. Thanks for sharing this - it was a great guide. I have a 2000 Accord - the only difference I found was that some of the screws had socket heads. I would recommend that others use care when removing the glovebox - I snapped off one of the anchors inside the dash with too much brute force, when what I needed to do was clear the lip of the glovebox by the latch hook assembly more than appeared necessary. What a ridiculous process...
