Honda ATC front brake strip & inspection Ft.Tool Girl Lilli

The very last video filmed in the old workshop & it just had to be with the gorgeous Tool Girl Lilli and nothing better than working on her favorite bike than the infamous Honda ATC200 Big Red!
In this video we take a look at the condition of the internal components of the front brake, we already know it needs a front brake cable but need to see if any other parts are required to get this brake back to working order.
This video covers the removal of the front wheel, strip down of the brake shoes & backing plate, removal of the cam, clean up & inspection.
The re-assemble is also covered and even a quick brake test on the bench.
Tool Girl Lilli is a great help in the shop, here eager to learn attitude and pro-active approach to learning is exactly what I look for in an assistant, oh & of course she's great fun to have around the shop too with lots of real life stories to share with us all.
I'm still on the lookout for a ton of parts for this old project bike and really keen to get it complete & in full working order, nonetheless, it's already been hard at work helping move the workshop gear around down at the new workshop.
It's a real shame that Honda stopped making these trikes as they are incredibly well built and reliable, luckily there are still plenty around so who knows we may even buy another one once this project is complete!

So, I have a 83 200e Big red atc and today was searching for a quick how to removing the front axle shaft. Searched high and low, but behold Andy Mechanic is the only video on KZbin for this style front axle! I was wondering if it unscrewed or needed beat out as I knew it had to be one or the other, just glad to have found a answer, Thanks! I just really enjoy saving the old atc's especially, there's nothing quite like the feeling after you finish one up. Word is Maier even recently fired up their presses and pushed out some plastics for our older gals, hopefully the manufacturers will follow suit and bring back some of the special ones... Well.. that would be everything from the 70cc through to the 250 Big reds 😆 remake them all I say! People seemingly are finally understanding accountability, as they should have long ago instead of sueing. Never should have been banned in the 1st place according to all with common sense. Some people just can't ride anything without getting hurt, that's not the manufacturers or machines fault. 😎

Cheers :-) me too, it's a great project bike - I took it for a blast around the garden at the new workshop (yes! It has a garden!) Great fun with usually only 2 wheels on the ground most of the time! You'll be pleased to know your sticker (magnet) has made the move safe & sound and takes pride & place in the new workshop :-) Tool Girls....well what can I say? Best order the paddling pool and mud I reckon! Lol

I’ve had a little luck cutting little diagonal slots in the friction pads on drum brakes to make them work better. The idea being it will let the dust out.

Hi Andy! You mentioned in an earlier video that Honda recommended welding the front forks to help with flipping or rolling. Here in the states I don't think they did that, they just stopped making or selling them. As mine are bent, I was planning on cleaning and adding new plastic glides I have for an extra set of forks to replace the bent ones. Of course, I can't install new dampeners because they're not available. Can you tell me, does having the fork solid make a big difference and do you think I should just weld mine solid? If so, could you give me a little guidance on that? Or maybe next time you do a video on the Honda atc could you quickly lift the boot up so I could see how it was welded? I don 't think VAT would be applicable. You are buying OUTSIDE of and USING outside of the EU. So, still £795 instead of £954. But, it is still a lot for a tank. One for my 125 brand new is over £300

Thanks. Yes, I'm confident you are correct on this though in any case it was wayyyyyy to much given the repair cost very little and was fun to do. It's only a workhorse & for fun so didn't want to go spend a heap of $$ on it. Gone are the days of £25 new tanks from David Silver! Cheers Andy :-)

i found lot of the ct90 ct110 postie bikes the honda step though parts fit air filter element and the hand rear back break cable fits did on mine and was cheaper as i had to get thing from the us and postage was going to kill me (and i remembered the postie bike i had when i was 7 i use to ride it to scohool had same thing hand and back foot break ) so got 1 a little adjustment and it fitted
