Had one for several years in the 1990s when I worked seasonally in the UK. Toured the UK, Ireland and Central Europe. Proper bike..... simple design, easy to maintain, cheap to run. I enjoyed it, but someone else took a liking to it, and stole it when I stopped for five minutes at a newsagent. Riding a CB125F now, which is a good fit for my needs these days.

I despatched a red one in the late 1980s. I was one of those you refer to who would sit on it all day flat out! :-) Did some long, tiring days on it in all weathers. Other than one exhausting day (Gatwick area > 5 into London > Birmingham and back (home at midnight in the rain), I absolutely loved the character of them plodding through the lanes and in and out of London from the Gatwick area. One slip off on a roundabout and one near off locking the front wheel in the rain! I then discovered the CX500, GT550 (Kawasaki) and GTR 1000 which made the job a whole lot easier! Great bikes though and it's awesome to see someone still really enjoying them. :-) Oh and I changed the oil every weekend!

Brilliant! So many DR's used amd abused these, so it's great to hear from someone who actually looked after theirs! The CX was a game changer for those longer trips, not only for performance but a bit more comfortable. The GT being shaft drive was also a bonus! Cheers for watching 😁👍

Lightweight, simple transport. Engine, frame, wheels and brakes. Sometimes a lack of features is *the* feature that is needed most.

And the most fun! 😊

@@BikesCarsandChat Thanks for the Buyer’s Guide. Seeing as many people appear to be downsizing these days, what are the 2024 equivalents? The CB 300R, GB350? I think there will be more in this category soon.

I'm not what new stuff is about in this category? I'm out of the loop, as I like older stuff with a bit of character 😉

the bike looks great in blue, changing to the better panels makes a huge difference. Wife three bikes max so it would have to be one out before one can come in :(

Just hide one! And yes, the blue looks great 😊👍

@tommaguzzi1723 those Enfields look like cracking bikes! Not so sure about the GS400 though!

@@BikesCarsandChatmy first bike was a bsa250, followed by an equally horrible honda k4 250 and then a honda xs 100. The RS was the first decent reliable bike I ever owned. The gs I replaced it with never missed a beat in 4 years as a daily rider and took me and my future wife all over Europe fully loaded with camping gear. I eventually replaced it with a BMW boxer, the then Guzzis hence my tag name, some bland jap 4s and another bmw before this RE which really does take me back to my youth and makes me smile every time I look at or ride it. Ride safe.
