I used to work at a well known Honda dealer (Ryes) in London in the late 70's and remember working on the 500T's. Bloody fiddley tappets!

I really wanted one of these back in the 70's, but they were beyond my reach sadly...... Looked fantastic in black.....

Hi , AH 76 , when it went on for around 6 weeks or more and no one had aircon . Nice to see the bike still runs well on newer fuel .

It feels good to look over Honda gauges again on a run through the countryside. You have a fine example in rare, original condition. I explored Ohio roads on a '71 CB450. My first road bike.

So quiet and smooth Paul. Delivers a much different experience than the old British iron. It’s a pleasure to have riding options to suit your riding mood, as it were. Great to have a bike for so long. Like reuniting with an old friend. Thank you so much for all you do. 🌞🏍👍🏻

Thanks Mick. Strangely, it is very similar in overall performance to my BSA Thunderbolt, but they have different ways of going about it and the Honda has a feel all of its own and does not feel obviously Japanese in its power delivery, but more like a cross between a British twin and a single, due to its 180 degree crank and longish stroke.

I’ve never ridden a Honda of that pedigree. Very interesting indeed. I know a chap that has a small collection of those. Maybe I can convince him to have a run out on one! 😎

It is a challenge to ride in the heat for me so I let it pass normally. Possibly sort of health related or age related because I feel myself nowadays very exhausted in temperatures over about 27 C. So I keep in the shades and take a cold shower periodically, to keep comfy. But I do not demand anyone to behave like me! There are funny people who think almost like psychopaths and try to set demands on other people they even do not know! They should begin with demands on familiar people, those who they know - if they have any. Easiest would be to set demands on themselves! Anyhow, thanks for the nice video! One could almost feel the heat!

The speedo looked very optimistic, 60mph seemed about 40. I remember the Honda parallel twins well, they played second fiddle to the 4-pot bikes but were excellent commuters, and tourers if you took your time.
@paulhenshaw45142 жыл бұрын
The speedo is about 8 mph fast, thanks to the front tyre being a little skinnier than standard, but it helps keep my licence clean!

I recon you’ll use that Honda over the Tiger Cub!! It seems a nice useful bike, we could be having a drop of rain tomorrow!! hopefully over in east lancs. Cheers Bernard.

It sounds to me as though you are experiencing Australian weather there Paul. melted Tarmac? yes, 40 degrees and over? yes. Wildfires raging? yes. Birds gasping for breath? yes. Put out some bowls full of water otherwise the birds will die in droves due to heat stress.

Mr. Henshaw I have a question regarding the down pipe on an Indian Bullet 500. What is the proper way to fit and seal the pipe/ head connection. I recently bought a 2000 RE Bullet 500 and it leaks exhaust there. I've haven't owned a bike with push in type exhaust and I've checked your videos and can't seem to find one dealing with this issue. I figured you were the guy who would know how to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul, I was Thinking of buying a 1977 cb500t and was wondering if the valve seats cope with unleaded petrol or do you need to use a fuel additive. Cheers from Wayne in Australia
@paulhenshaw45142 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, the valve seats on these, and many other old bikes are fine with unleaded, I never put any additives in any of my bikes' fuel.

I say, mon ami, while cruising, it souded as if you were frequently getting on & off the throttle. Such was the case...or do I require a hearing-specialist ?
@paulhenshaw45142 жыл бұрын
Well spotted, I was feeling for a 'lumpy patch', which seemed to improve a little after varying the throttle positions a bit.

Yes, a very dull experience, British bikes always keep one in anticipation of the next breakdown...

I can tell anyone, this Honda can spring some very exciting surprises and has done so over our years together - maybe I should make a video discussing them, but we have done well to get this far together!

Of all the 40 odd bikes I've owned over the years my CB500T was the only one that completely wrecked its engine to the point of being unrepairable! The cam chain was of immense length and could break if not adjusted spot on, mine did when pottering through a town at 30mph. I was not a great fan of the bike, it was poor compared with my Suzuki T500 which I owned next and did thousands of miles including courier work.
@Spondoodikins2 жыл бұрын
I wish I had documented the breakdowns I had with my first Norton Commando... Engine was built by John Hudson and me yet it still are two cams. Ten years of fun and much laughter in hindsight, I could write a book on that ownership. Why do we do it!!!!
@Tubespoet2 жыл бұрын
@@Spondoodikins weirdly my Commando was very reliable after I took it back from Combat to standard spec, Hondas always gave me trouble so I must be the exception that proves the rule!
