I put 16,000 miles on my CB500X in less than 6 months. Fantastic little all around motorcycle. The brakes are fine, the suspension more than adequate for rough roads and mild trail or off road riding. The fuel economy is astounding. (62-75 mpg for me so far). It is just so damn easy and fun to ride during commutes and weekend adventures.Very reliable as well. For the price, you won't find a bike as versatile and comfortable as this CB500X.

I"m very close to a purchase of one myself. I'd just passed a basic skills course and obtained my M1 license. Soon as I get my bike, I'm signing up for the intermediate course and taking to the road soon after!! Like a bad itch that I can't scratch, I need to do this . . .

Exactly my sentiments! Although there are scooters that are freeway eligible and have storage space to spare, I'd just rather have a moto for commuting. Manual trans cars were so much fun for me to drive and so it goes with motorcycles.

I absolutely love mine too. I wish I got your fuel economy though. I barely get 50 mpg so either I need to lose weight or go easier on the throttle. As for the top speed question I'm pretty sure they are governed at 109 mph.

I love my CB500X! Does everything very well but nothing really excellent. Still I got mine for $4700 and at 53 years old I do not need anything more aggressive. And the 60+mpg is great.

I just bought the 2016 version and been completely impressed with it. I'm in my late 40's and had much larger bikes before. This little machine is fantastic. So much fun. Easy city commute but I've done long country rides too. It does it all. Bit quiet that's my only complaint but that's an easy fix😎👍

I am glad to see a review of a (midsize) UJM. My first bike in 1984 was a Honda CX500. I was happy with it. I am not a big guy but I took a couple of weekend camping trips two up without issue. After having MANY bikes since then I have come around to the thinking that the CB500X is all the bike you need. Light plus nimble = fun. Good on gas and cheaper insurance. What is not to like.

Best Motorcycle Ever!! Fantastic combination for a perfect riding experience more than 40 years riding , street, custom, trails, even Vespa , but Never found such balance for being able to have only one bike for everything.One can even make long milage trips on this Honda's unexpensive wonder.!

Great review, but I own one so I expected that :) I went from an 800cc cruiser to this, ill never look back! and a shake my head wondering why I ever even thought a cruiser would be a good idea. awesome all around bike, easy for beginners/new riders, my passenger finds it much more comfortable too!

I have this moto and i can afirme that is a stupend motorcycle in all senses. Very, very fast in the street and in road very easy to guide. Doubts in buy? Is the best in her category. Buy with closed eyes, you will not regret.

Jamie, long time follower here. Wondering if you would recommend the 500 range for a beginner in the 6ft 180 lbs. Range for a new rider. I think 250s and 300s are too small for the bigger fellows. Keep up the great work buddy. I always look forward to your videos. Hope one day to ride with you.

I am actually looking at this bike (CB500X) and the next step up Versys 650 LT. I've been riding for 10 years now and have owned 4 different cruisers Suzuki M50, Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic, Victory Vegas, and my current bike the Victory Kingpin. I'm on the road 1.5 hours each day round trip to work and back home, 80% of that is highway miles. The cruisers are great for the weekend but I would like something a little more agile in traffic and the added safety of ABS. What I've learned with the bikes I've owned is that the suspension quality is sacrificed in lower priced bikes and I'm concerned the same is true with these two adventure bikes. I know the Kawasaki Versys out performs the Honda CB500X in every way. I also know it would end up costing about a $1,000 more after I set up the Honda the way I want it, similar to the Versys LT. My question is the Honda good enough for the daily commute in rush hour traffic (80mph is sometimes hit just staying with traffic), will it sound like it's being worked too hard? Is the suspension high enough quality so your not bouncing all over the place and would I be left wanting for more if I purchased it? The Versys 650 LT is at the upper end of what I would want for this type of bike, no need for a BMW, but is it more than I need? Which ever I get it's primary use would be commuting, weekend trips, and extended week long tours. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoy your reviews, thanks!

This might actually be the best ADV bike out there. It's light, not too tall, and has more power than the Versys 300. I don't know why people need a huge tank of a bike, which you can't pick up yourself once it falls.

For me it felt boring, heavy and slow. Suspension didn't eat bumps that well. I was a bit disappointed :/

try a Transalp 600/650 if you have not already . I have a 600 and I find it perfect best bike I have owned in 29 years of continuous riding plenty of speed to go crazy some times they handle great too . cruisers are very limited in what they can do not much fun at all really unless you like chrome noise and riding like a girl LOL

+Bob Marley KTM 1190 was my kind of bike! Hard hitting engine and plenty of speed and fun! Sadly it was a bit heavy in some situations. At the moment I have a CBR600F4i, which is quite good balance between comfort and handling and can cope with a great variety of terrains. Although I am constantly dreaming of lighter and faster bike with more suspension travel :) Transalp 600 is just as heavy as my CBR600 and lacks half of the power :P

I know they are not fast as a cbr600 but they are a joy to ride . you are happy with the speed they have its hard to explain if you ride one you will know not ideal for a lot of motorway work but on pot holed back roads with poor surface they are great also for city commuting they are very comfortable . in the right hands with proper tyres they can plow through wet mud on enduro courses leaving lesser riders on proper crossers stuck in the mud very funny sight to see . take a test ride on one if you get the chance some time . I hear bad things about KTM I wouldn't buy one fast but fragile .

Nice review Jamie, I think honda has the right idea. I ride a heavy weight dual sport (DR650) and when you're adventure riding bigger is not always better. Looks like a decent bike and its reasonably priced. I'd have to ride one first. Would be nice more smaller adventure bikes like smaller Tenere here.

Buddy, pay the insurance on the Scrambler. If you rode both of these for a weekend, you'd be smiling every time you signed that check. Ducatis are full of character, and bikes like this Honda has been putting out for the last few years are not really for the American market. These are bikes for some east Asian guy to ride to work, like buying a Toyota Corolla here.

Something I've seen on those bikes is how easily and quickly those flimsy and thin plastic side-panels get scratched and marred up. Other than that I would have liked to have seen better brakes, and the engine be a true near 50occ one rather than an oversize 450 like it is. Now if Honda would make an 800cc or so version of this bike with better brakes I'd want to buy one.

Motorcycle Extremist I cannot argue with that. They are heavy, as are many of the 800cc "adventure bikes. HadesOmega has the right idea. I'm a big fan of the NC700x, although I think it's a 750 now and it's had a gearing/torque makeover in the process. If I wanted to buy new, it would be between the NC750X and the Kawasaki Versys 650.

+Hector F. Of course. 471cc isn't going to give you a ridiculous amount of power like liter-bikes and some 600's. And the addition of ABS is even better for quick breaking for beginners because the bike will be much less likely to fishhook and collapse. I'd get a previously owned bike as a beginner bike though, that way you won't be too distraught if you end up dinging up the bike a bit.

a more affordable similar kind of bike although slightly bigger and not quite as good mpg but still not bad is the older Honda Transalp xl600v built from 1987 to 1990 or for a bit more money a Transalp 650 built from 2000 to 2006 . the perfect adventure bike if you ask me . one will happily pull 2 average sized persons and full gear all around the world several times no bother to it you will give up before the bike does they really are bullet proof .

I have xl600v 1998, how would it compare to cb500x in terms of comfort, agility, wind protection, feeling during the ride? I am planning to replace transalp, want something modern, safer (tubeless tires, abs, to be the first owner). I had flat front tyre on transalp (rim was damaged inside), at it was scary, but still like transalp very much. Hopefully this can be good replacement.
