Get a slipper clutch in it, it'll prevent the rear tire from locking up when down shifting, that's caused because your wheel speed is too high for your lower gear, a slipper clutch will over rev as opposed to the wheel locking up

It’s really unlikely that you’ll chirp the tire unless you really dump a downshift, I imagine this rider just was running excessively high tire pressure that day. I do like slipper clutches, but I can’t say for sure cuz every bike I’ve had has had one

Yeah. Not real sporty but could not kill the engines. Most people including me were novices and only just learning to work on machines. No one had money to.pay people to get work done. Oil change and filter every second change was about it.

I remember myself and others running around on the Honda 4s and Kawa 900s. The thing often done with Honda was 810 kit and two inch extensions on front forks . Of course, rear shocks and pipes were first to go.

The chirp wasn't from acceleration it was engine braking because he didn't rev match his engine speed for the lower gear he shifted into. It wasn't a burnout chirp.

On a bike like that the best method would be to bark the throttle just before downshifting but be ready to get in the throttle immediately after the downshift. If you’re gonna get in it….get in it.

I own a 78 super sport myself. For the people making an issue about the tire chirp it has a lot more to do with the way he shifted there than anything. A couple gears down trying to get your rpms up for a little blast causes the motor that quick jump and the bite comes from your suspension. With my shorty shocks is pretty easy to do with the slightly taller better quality shocks it never happens anymore no matter what I do. There is nothing wrong with the factory clutch in these in fact it works very well.

Old bikes (or new old bikes like this one) are always undervalued. My $400 cb 650 when i got my first bike is rated stock at like 53hp. Rebuilt and tuned obviously. But thats the same kinds power u see in the 400/500 class now. Shit an old cb900 has like 95 hp. Thats about as much as a katana 750 and more than a mt/fz07, ninja 650, and a number of older 600's. The 5spd limits the speed but for how cheap you can get old bikes, a 5spd is a small sacrifice for a 1st bike.
