As someone who currently owns a 250, I would say that a 500 seems like the perfect amount of power for city/freeway, where the 250 is really only enough for the city. You're probably still going to get fantastic economy too.

I think this lineup is the best for canyon carving technical roads like the ones in Malibu especially the Snake, Piuma, Latigo, Decker, Las Flores. The low end torque and upright seating position makes canyon riding easier.

As someone who currently owns a 250, you're 100% wrong, the 250 is enough for city and freeway, what are you thinking? i top at 120+ mph and have taken 300-400 Mile trips from SF to LA and handled it all perfectly. Don't listen to anyone saying the 250 isn't enough for freeway.

Thinking about selling my car for one of these to use as my next daily driver. Looks like it is economical, very good value for money, but also quick enough on the back roads to put a smile on your face!

I think the honda cbr500 is going to be the next big thing because its in between a Super sport and sportbike. I think its on the sweet spot.

I agree. I love the new ninja300, but the the cbr500 looks like you have more room to grow into it without wanting an upgrade.

I took a testride on a CBR500R, but decided to order me a CB500F :) I like the more upright position. ;) Now I have to wait for about 6 weeks because it was out of stock...

$8000 in Australia that sure is an incredible price. Needs to come down by $2000 at least before I'll even consider buying one.

I don't think it's restricted. It's design from scratch to fit European motorcycle license. Why else do you think they make it 471cc instead of 500, and gives it torque all over the rev range. Somewhere along the line Honda must have thought "We'll just sell it everywhere, maybe we can earn more money".

This Honda 500 is for Europe marketing. New drivers can drive it in 2013 because the power limit will be 48hp

Try harder. He didn't say it's not available outside Europe, it's just created to fit in EU's motorcycle licensing tiers. A2 license if not mistaken, 35kw/47hp max, exactly the power of it's 471cc engine.

This CBR 500 should have been as fast as ninja 650R .. but his 40 something HP makes it useless.. THey wont sell in Canada because immatriculations are way more expensive for bikes over 400cc. So this means you could buy a ninja 400r 2011 or 2012 for the same amount of HP and save almost 300$ per year on immatriculations. Seriously Honda with this bike you screwed up big time..
