Way back when I owned a Candy Glory Red '79 CBX (bought new), Euro kitted, gold anodize painted wheels etc. I briefly had a Maxi-X exhaust system: 6 pipes into a flat collector and two stubby 6" megaphones. No real baffles, just a removeable automotive freeze plug to "quiet" the sound. It was crazy loud and I could see everyone putting their hands over their ears as I passed them. It was a glorious sound that was too extreme for the street - I got pulled over nearly every other day for noise violations etc. The only reason I had replaced the exhaust was because of damage I had done to the original exhaust after missing a corner while carving canyon roads in SoCal. Then by luck I happened to be riding past an open garage where a guy was polishing his stock CBX, so I stopped to talk. He had just got it and one of the mods he wanted to do was the exhaust. So we made a deal right then and there and swapped exhaust systems in his garage. I was happy and he was happy - I could still hear him revving his engine a mile away.

The original Honda CB-750 was sold in 1969 with 4 into 4 pipes that sounded uncannily like a six cylinder Jaguar. The 1970 model I bought in July of that year, after a long wait for the to pipeline to fill sufficiently to reach Oklahoma, was probably among the last to be sold before the late-year model change. By September it was goodbye to the sweet pipes for new buyers--the exhaust on the new model lacked that special sound. I was happy with my timely purchase until the mufflers began to rust through, possibly a consequence of my washing the bike after every ride, but not the only part of the bike that proved vulnerable to rusting. Wanting to preserve the original look of the bike, I replaced the pipes with take-offs from a later model CB-750, losing some of the magic of that first-model exclusivity. Damn it, Honda.

4:51 That car came out of no where nice calm reaction from the rider, just a slight roll off the throttle and its like nothing ever happened.

My 1980 Kawasaki KZ 1300 had a similar sound, plus it demanded serious respect due to it's 120 HP engine

The Z was quite a lot heavier, but above 100 mph it just seemed to keep on going. Due to the nature of inline sixes, the power did come on abruptly. And the brakes weren't especially effective. So yeah, it did demand respect.

That engine sounds great at any RPM. Love how it burbles like an old Jaguar at low rpm, then screams like an F1 car at full throttle. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds very similar to the Lamborghini in the opening scene of Cannonball Run. The first one, not the shi++y sequels.

That short ride brings back wonderful memories. That’s a 1980 model, the second year of the twin shock bikes. Mine had an Australian Pipe Master 6into6 pipe that had that same wonderful sound. Absolutely love❤️ the sound, and riding characteristics of the machine.

Basically every naked/cruiser. Not too intense though especially not at speeds over like 100mph.

Thank you for a fantastic ride along! Your bike sounds so amazing that I can’t find the words to describe it!! To think that 20 years ago I owned not one but two of these beautiful bikes, a Magnum and a mono-shock model. And being young dumb and full of… I ended up selling them! Yes, I willingly bow before the firing squad 😣
