About a month ago I purchased my first project car - A 2000 Honda Integra base model! The 3rd generation Integra is based on the EG civic - same wheelbase, suspension etc. I completely agree about the exhaust note - the induction noise on a B series Honda engine is absolutely glorious and I've never understood why people drown it out with a raspy exhaust.

Currently k24 swapping my eg civic. Looks exact same as this one haha. End goal is 250whp in a 950kg car. Should be good for a low 12 sec 1/4 and keep up with 400hp evos around local track

This is the sound of a raw, race bred motor. Honda was dominating everywhere during this era. Motorcycle, F1 you name it and Honda was winning. IMO the fifth gen civic is the most visually appealing and of course it is responsible more than any other chassis for launching the import tuner scene. Perhaps I'm a little biased as I have a 94 coupe. The DC2 type r was developed off this chassis...so much more could be said.

had an EG will a full DC2R conversion (brakes, hubs, suspension, engine, gearbox, seats) - think integra-R with 200kg less. Was an absolute weapon and hoot to drive

It looks setup close to my integra type r. You don’t even get an appreciation for this type of car until you Autocross it or take it to a racetrack. Because it’s a momentum car it makes you a better driver because you can’t rely on power and torque to keep your speed up. Off throttle oversteer is the best thing about eg/dc/ek. Tell your buddy to go do a track day in that car and you’ll get an even better feel for it.

I used to own an EK9 import, and I love that this has managed to come to the channel great review! They’re not the fastest in a straight line but on a track they will keep up with a lot of things with twice the power, snobs will turn their nose out of them but they’re surprisingly very fun and amazing track cars wait until you try a boosted one that’s another story! P.S these can actually sound quite tasty with the right exhaust!👌🏼 hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

Hondas Eg6 Ek9, and toyotas e12 e16 are some of the best hatchbacks from Japan, Ive a soft spot for a 90s civic doesn't matter if its EK or EG

My favorite Civic by a wide margin. That being said, I think that all of them from that era are way way overpriced and while models such as the SIR are very cool, all of those extra parts just don't do very much, so I think it's a little bit silly. Also yes, that exhuast is terrible. I still do love them though. Integras of the same vintage often get the FWD crown for handling but I think it should go to these Civics.

Love that mate! But then again i own and daily drive a 97 mb1 sr, with the D16 thats near standard, only noise it makes is in vtec as have standard exhaust with an air filter. Great car to drive for its age 👍

I'll never understand the fascination with putting very loud exhausts on 4 cylinder hatchbacks. My mates were all at it when we were teenagers and I didn't get it then, either. It's like taking a Ed Sheeran track and playing it through a 1000 watt sound system. Still sounds shit, and now everyone else has to listen to it, too. However, a standard one of these would be lovely!

If anyone would have one for review a Peugeot 306 would be just the thing since we're in hatchback territory. Some 100-200 kilos heavier than a Civic compared trim to trim but it makes for the ideal balance of refinement and enjoyment.

My wife had a 92 SIR. The stock exhaust is not loud at all and if you can get aftermarket ones that only get a little louder once you reach the vtec switch over around 6K. A very fun piratical car to drive. Ours was stock except for the exhaust and a lot of fun on a back road. Twisting out the B16 A to 8K never grew old. She would still be driving it but our Canadian winters and road salt ate the body. We looked into importing another one from Japan, they are now more rare and getting pricey.

Had an EG ESi and an EK VTi. They weren't slow back in the day and personally I wouldn't have an aftermarket exhaust. An induction kit would be enough. Fond memories.

Man Had 2 dislike cause B engine with spoon exhaust is why I owned EG6 and DC2 its the Pissed off Hornet sound. It's fun for first 1.5 hour drive then earplugs time :D

Honda eg civics to their owners is comparable to marines and their M16 Rifle as marines would say “there are many like them, but this one is mine”... which brings me to another thing, sorry if you don’t like the sound comes out of the back, dispite what can you attached it will still sing out loud and if you don’t like it jog along.

You should try and seek out some classic hot hatches like peugot 106s or even more recent Clio 1*2 with basic mods. If you genuinely love the thrill of driving you will enjoy them. If you drive them and dont enjoy it you have to then ask yourself, what is it that makes you a petrol head, beacause if you just like going fast you should move to bike, if you like exotic things then buy a fancy watch. This is a drivers car in the purest perception of the term.

Stock EG6 weighs around 1040kg without ABS (SiR I) or 1050kg with (SiR II), EK9 Civic Type R weighs 1070kg. You can get these cars down to about 900kg but really need to strip it out, then hits a brick wall due to its steel chassis. They excel in Gymkana (autocross), relatively ok for short course track (1-1.5min ish) or British b roads. K20A engine swap is possible but probably need more work than on an Elise. Most aftermarket exhaust for it is minimal bend with minimal resonator, with no sound chambers, thus the annoying raspy, bumblebee ricey sound.
