@James-mb4tt
@James-mb4tt 8 жыл бұрын
I've got one 1.8 sport - It certainly isn't 'low power' at all - Got 135 out of it and felt it could go a little faster. What you're forgetting is that its only recently (last 5-7 years) we have discovered Turbos are extremely useful for lower engine cars - hence why many cars these days have Turbos.

***** The fact is I own the previous model, the EP2, which is only 1.6 110hp and can make 0-60 in the same time that the newer model with 140hp. Why should I want to buy something heavier, higher, and runs the same?

***** Yes I miss a 6th gear so much in my EP2. It seems the new generations are made for people looking comfort, futuristic interiors, and are better in highway. Anyway the old EP's have a sporty behaviour that cannot be found in the news. Maybe when I get older and have wife and kids I'll be looking for the new comfortable boring ones ;)

@@WH250398 its stiff, familiar to an audi a3, it’s not as bad its not like it hurts when you hit bumps. It doesn’t really affect the driving as much, it feels sharp and racing like though. If you’re thinking of getting it, don’t make it a reason not to get it, it’s the only downside besides the rust. if you have good roads, it wont be a problem. So to answer your question, is it really bad? Nah, I don’t really notice it, i did drive an audi a3 1998, compared to it civic is quite soft haha, plus it feels like a racing car, its fast, dynamic, you feel in control.

I bought the 1.8 petrol, second-hand, a few years ago as a shared car with (then) girlfriend - obviously the car out-lasted the relationship: it's a Honda! Even though it's been a spare car for 18-months, every time I think of selling it, I can't, it's just too good to sell (at 92,000 miles). This engine has the v-tec activate at 2,000 RPM, it's more about fuel economy than high-rev's. There's a trick to driving this engine smoothly; either keep below 2K rev's or power through the 2K mark, else it's jerky. It's not an exciting engine but extremely competent with lots of low-end pull - don't over-stretch it and it feels like a much bigger unit. If buying a manual, it's probably best to to walk away if looks as though the top of the gear leaver is very worn; this indicates a lazy driver resting their hand on the stick every journey, wearing the bushes and making gear-changes difficult over time. Another common fault is the suspension bump-stops slipping inside the spring, making a rubbing sound in damp weather - it doesn't stop the car from being driven but it'll cost roughly £200 (UK) per strut, at a local garage to put right (£50 parts + labour). That said, I've spent waaaay more keeping German cars maintained (£,000's over £00's). Last thing; when changing the rear brake-pads, be aware they need re-setting as they self-adjust tighter, resulting in the pads permanently in contact with the disc's (eventually fully-locked-on) - I've seen this posted on the internet - not something I've experienced!

My 2.2 diesel is at 210.000km, still goes 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. Never broke down, still has original front discs, clutch (it actually has a 3 stage wearing thread and is really strong - people who changed the clutch got owned by a garage :D), original battery and AC never recharged. The 2.2 diesel is full of torque, left dozens of German cars behind eating my black smoke :D That said, the paint and some other components dont live up to Honda’s reputation , it being my 3rd Honda, I can compare it to my 92 Civic and 98 Prelude. That said, I still love it, it cruises fine on the highway even at higher speeds. At 160-170 km/h its still pretty quiet and smooth. It only drinks 5,5l /100km, has a lot of room (got a kid while ownership and went great) and the engine is a lot of fun! Many things the newer Civics dont have.... So wouldnt know what to buy next...

I've had a 1.8 petrol for just over 3 years and other than tyres and a set of rear brakes it's needed nothing do to it. Very economical engine (currently sitting on 48.7 over the past 1100 miles, which seems like the most I can get, even with a K&M air filter and changing from supermarket fuel to Shell V Power + Nitro) that never fails to bring a smile to my face if you drop it down a couple of gears and floor it! Honestly no idea what to get for my next car, sorely tempted to wait a couple more years and get one of the new Civic's, would have to be the 1.5 Sport model though!

i have got the diesel one, before i had a audi, vw and ford. This honda is the best car of these for me, the diesel engine is superb. 10 Years, and 265000km later, engine works like the first day, there were no big problems, some rust apeared, brakes, bumpers, oil and Filters, stabilizers, some suspension stuff and one injector (because of bad fuel quality) were changed. Whole car is stock! Maybe the turbo and or the clutch will be the next thing to change/repair. I think i will get 350-380k km out of this car :-) 0-100 km/h on wet 9,9s with new Hancook ventus v12 evo 2 0-100 km/h on dry 8,4s same tyres here Vmax: Tachometer: 216 GPS: 204 Nice Car :-D

I remember watching this episode the day it came out and recently had my first drive in the UFO civic. Stepping out of a Golf V of similar age and milage i was quite amazed how much more modern the civic feels, drives and looks. the interiour basically looked new where all the softer touch points in the golfs normaly are heavily used (window switches etc.) and it is much more direct to drive, albeit a bit more uncomfortable. compared to the 1.6 in the golf the 1.8 in the civic flies and is much more silent and frugal at higher speeds due to the sixth gear, i would also take it above the later available 1.4 tsi in the golf cause is simply doesnt go wrong all the time. however you do need to rev the nuts out of it to keep moving at higher autobahn speeds and inclines compared to a modern small turbo that makes the same amount of torque two gears higher up. for city and rural areas however its perfectly motorized. the boot is super practical due to the flat falling rear seats.

I think like the first Focus the Civic looked great when it first came out but has aged a lot since then. I still think it looks great especially from 09 onwards with the type r grille and body coloured wheel arches and skirts. The very clever rear seats, fun free revving VTEC engines, sublime gearbox and the fact that it is built in Swindon still make it a good purchase. The Focus may be nicer to drive and the Golf may be more refined but they are so dull to look at.

have got a 2007 1.8 sport ishift bought from new, had previous version series 7, in 1.6 auto, love new ones gear box which seems to have been dropped now but suspension on older one was much nicer to drive, Honda should think about putting ishift and independent suspension together and soften the ride slightly, THEN they'd have a winner all round, apart from the silly split rear window !!!

2.2 diesel is stellar engine in this car and sound isolation is much better thant you would think. Onve I was driven by this car at 185-190 km/h and all I could hear was wind noise, not engine, not suspension. I never thought a little car could make you feel so safe at that speed. I used to drive in My 97 Prelude at 170 km/h and it way was louder and not that relaxing (with shitty tires though). This car is interesting and as usually for Honda - reliable.

Yeah, if you're thinking of buying one of these, get the 2.2 diesel. A magnificent engine and car

WhiteSlift Yea your right, i have the 2.2 diesel 2007 and the clutch has been slipping for the whole time ive owned it. Although with that in mind, i would still have another civic,

Hayden Wilde My dad has the 2.2 and his clutch was replaced on Honda's cost because he had less than 60,000 miles on his. But I bought the 1.8 petrol because I could only afford a higher mileage, and the clutch replacement is expensive.

I'm currently looking to get my first car, I've found the 1.8L petrol version from 2006/7, what do you think? Is it something you'd recommend? Is it expensive to maintain? Is maintenance something that's needed often? And what about the driving and parking experience?

I think the best looking civics ever were either the coupe's or sedans from 96-00 .. The EJ6 version of civic's... I used to own a 99 non vtec civic sedan.. D16Y7 engine in my 99 civic DX... the EX version 96-00 had the D16Y8 with V-tec... anyways though I was able to put a really small turbo on my D16Y7 engine along with headers/full exhaust and intake and brought the car from stock 106hp to 150hp... It was a dream to drive and I wish I still had it. It was actually decently fast... sure I only got it up to 150hp but that was with 100% stock internals and the car only weighed 2,000 lbs soaking wet. Long live the sexiest civics of all time the EJ6 civics. If I could have any car to be my daily driver right now it would be a 1999 civic type R (182 hp stock)

I always left the 8th gen as a no go, after testdriving a Type R and the diesel in the past, I thought sticking to EK forever, even the EP did not convince me, other than the K20 a noisy can. But after my girlfriend shortened my EK I needed a car fast, I bought a Silverstone full option with literally all every option in the book , and it grows on me. It took almost 15 years to get used to the car, and that is why Honda is great and like fine wine they get better with age (though not all models/wine). PS everything works on this 10 year old car!

I bought a 2008 5-speed manual Honda Civic a few years ago. A year ago, I crashed it. In February, I bought another 2008 Honda Civic 5-speed manual. Difference is, this one had no spoiler, was gold-colored, and hadn't been rammed into a tree by a previous owner. I buy Honda because they just work. And it's nice when things just work.

I plan on modifying my 2007 Civic with rims and probably suspension from a 2018-19 Civic to help cool the brakes and increase its fuel economy because they’re lighter and to prevent it from falling apart. I’m NOT going to put a “fart can” exhaust on it because I would feel like a massive idiot!
