Great video showing the steps. I just got an OEM Honda carburetor and was going to swap it this morning. Now, I’ll grab one of those hose clamps before I start. Thanks for sharing.

Why do you work on the generator on the floor? Surely it would be easier and more convenient to do it on a bench? And less liable to lose small parts.

@@WendyandGeoffPattison, I have limited space because I work out of my garage. A bench would definitely be awesome but that’s probably 4 generators worth of space.

Why not take that stock carb and take it apart and clean everything instead of replacing it? I'm only asking because it seems like the stock carb would be better than some china knock off, but I'm not in the know if there is a good reason and I can tell you know your stuff real wall so wanted to ask. Thanks in advance!

@@onthethrottle7104 I’d say 99% of the time you can clean them just fine. Many people have trouble cleaning carburetors properly and a generic from Amazon works great except for incompatible stepper motor connectors. I made the adaptor to be a solution for people who want to do the job themselves cheaply, quickly and correctly.

@ThatGeneratorGuyАй бұрын
@ , If you’ve unbolted the carb and removed the air filter box the only thing holding it is old gas that’s gummed up and is acting like a glue. Speak some brake cleaner (not carb cleaner) around the back side of the carb and keep smacking it, it will come off.

Hey bud I have a questions, I have one of these generators… recently took apart the carb and cleaned it up really well to include the jet and the brass orifice…. Used some carb cleaner so it was super clean then I ran fresh diesel into the tank with some seafoam…. To make sure it cleans anything that I might have missed…. My issue is that when I get to around 1600 it stumbles on its face then slowly tries to ramp Back up….never got it high or it to show overload any clue why it might be doing that ?
@ThatGeneratorGuy6 ай бұрын
1600 watts? If your initial issue was old gas/gummed up carburetor, you probably didn’t clean the carburetor good enough. Those are really good engines and they will tolerate a lot so it’s not surprising that it’s able to run. I’ll be doing a video on carburetor cleaning soon but if you cleaned all that’s visible (including the plastic pilot jet) then just do the following 1.remove carburetor 2. Remove bowl 3. Blow compressed air into the small brass hole on the choke side of carburetor (there are two holes, you want the one on the side with the pilot jet) 4. Alternate spraying brake cleaner (no carb cleaner) and compressed air a few times and it should be good to go
@dieseldawg71326 ай бұрын
@@ThatGeneratorGuy cleaned it out again and replaced the old filters, ran some ethonol free gas from buccee’s and some seafoam It finally ran to higher wattage and thanks!

@@ThatGeneratorGuy quick question why the brake cleaner over the carb cleaner ???? Is there no coating on the fuel system we should worry about ???
@ThatGeneratorGuy6 ай бұрын
@@dieseldawg7132, these carburetors have rubber parts and the carburetor cleaner will destroy them and make them gummy (float needle tip, bowl o-ring, and o-rings on the pilot jet). I use brake cleaner (the non-chlorinated) the whole way and never have to worry about ruining components. 👍🏻

@@sreihart, Yes. It’s cheaper!👍🏻 A new OEM carb is $100+, plus tax. A generic carb will be $15-$25. If you’re the type of person who will need another carb in the future, great you already have the adapter and get another cheap generic, if not, it’s still cheaper than OEM to buy the connector too.

@ThatGeneratorGuy2 ай бұрын
@@stormstrike1845 , You almost never need a replacement. Cleaning works 95% of the time for me. Most people though either don’t have the knowledge to properly clean it or just don’t care to spend their time cleaning and would rather toss a $30 generic in and have it up and running fast and easy.
