In this video, I’ll discuss why I converted my Honda EU2000i gas generator to propane. After a bit of research, I settled on the tri-fuel conversion kit for Hutch Mountain.

I just recently purchased the hutch mountain kit for my eu22000i, every video I come across says that you don’t need to have choke on. But the manual says choke off is to the right where the arrow is pointing. Not where it says choke? Please verify. Thanks.

Yessir! I converted my EU2200i to propane from Hutch Mountain and it's been flawless. No more 1-gallon gas tank run time limitations, no more worries about static electricity (living in dry AZ), no more carrying gas and dealing with fumes or a gunked up carburetor, and the best part of propane is how simple it is to adjust the regulator for elevation changes (camping in AZ, I can go from 500' to 8,500'+ elevation), which means no more carburetor jet changes. Buy a Honda, convert it to propane, go camping with your BBQ tank, get runtime of 50+ hours for a weekend of heating and cooking, and it'll only cost you less than $15 ($3/gallon) to refill the tank so you can do it again next weekend. This setup powers my Aliner popup camper on my camping trips, and with the Honda electronics, I have no problem trusting plugging in my phone, tablet, laptop and other devices for clean sine-wave charging. Solid win all around for my use, and probably yours. Cheers! Pete

@@TheTechPrepper Thanks, Tech Prepper. I enjoyed the battery generator video as well. I’m kind of an old dad with young sons. Considering a Colorado Trailer Sales Off Road trailer for hauling trail bikes and doubling as a camper. I was thinking that a propane powered generator coupled with something like a Jackery power station would make a good power combination. I know you considered ending your channel a few months ago. While I have no idea how demanding maintaining a YT channel can be, I hope you will keep yours going; good content, well presented.

@@cwo8771 Your kids are going to love the outdoor adventures. You are probably set in terms of power so long as your not planing on running too many large appliances like an HVAC. The channel takes a bit of work. Close to 16 hours per week between filming, editing, social media, emails, etc. Then, there's the EmComm Tools software projects. That's another 20 hours. Layer on a full-time job, family time, exercise and the occasional public service event...I'll keep it going as long as I can. Thanks for the support!

Hey Gaston, A year later, have you used this generator much? Looks like California is going to ban these small generators in the gas configuration and I'm looking for alternatives given SoCal Edison isn't hugely reliable in my area.

I run it about once per month off the propane and have changed the oil twice. I even ran some of the RV systems off it not too long ago. It's hard to beat the Honda 2000. Ok, I need to know what's the story with my former state pulling this nonsense.

@@TheTechPrepperIf your RV is beside your house you could probably put your generator under your RV run it and know one would know. Elevate about 5 inches use rope to secure it. And hide your electrical cord going to it. California is crazy on their laws nothing is as clean as propane and natural gas!

I also converted my EU2000 to propane. I wouldn't go back. I have city water so no real need for a 240 volt generator. My EU2000 will easily run the essentials including 2 freezers, fan on wood stove, lights in the house and a crock pot. It will even run my 240 volt water heater by it self but since it is at half voltage it will be at 1/4 the power (must be comfortable hard wiring it). I have a 500 gallon propane tank with a connector on the house so depending how late in winter I need the fuel I should have plenty. If you think things through you can often get by with a much smaller and quieter generator.

Thanks for contributing to the conversation. I'm glad to see another propane success story. Since the recording, I decided to go with a larger tank. I was thinking 500 gallons, too. Which conversion kit are you using?

I like the change over for the smaller Watt generators and inverters but the larger ones (i.e.. Powerful enough to run a whole house) give me concerns about the consumption rate of LPG. 5500 rated running Watts for example would run about 8.5 hrs. on a 20 lb. bottle. There is a chart on line explaining the consumption rates for different power generators. What do you think about that?
@TheTechPrepper
@TheTechPrepper 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great point and something to consider. Everyone's needs are different, but I can only speak for my own needs. For our family, having a small manual transfer switch with 4-5 critical circuits is all we need. It's also easier for us to burry a large propane tank outside and have it filled once or twice a year. I understand the efficiency of gasoline compared to LP, but for us LP is likely our safest and easiest option. I appreciate the comment. Since theis video was recorded, we supplemented our backup power to include a DiY, portable battery/solar generator that is cable of running the garage refrigerator and my home office, so the LP-based generator only runs a second refrigerator and the lights in our master.

It's received little use as only I fire it up about once a month. I have changed the oil twice. It's only been used once to power the motor home when the on-board generator died. I like the conversation, but rarely get to use it out here. If you need an alternate to gasoline, get it. Thanks for support he channel, Harry!

Thanks. I'm with you. The final parts for my solar system are arriving this weekend. Renogy has taken 7+ weeks and I still don't have my charge controller. I went with another vendor and I'm getting the solar controller today. I will likely be running the fridge off solar/batteries. The generator is just a nice backup. Lastly, thanks for the decibel idea! I did not have time to compare the dBA for gas, unfortunately. For anyone reading the comments, check out Matt's channel. He has a nice channel with lots of great DiY projects.

What is the button on top that was installed next to the port connection?
@TheTechPrepper
@TheTechPrepper 3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Mark. It's the engine shut off button for both gas/propane. For propane, I don't use it and just close the valve on the regular. But when I run with gasoline, that's the button to shut off the generator.

@tomtee4442
@tomtee4442 Жыл бұрын
Natural gas, propane, hydrogen, gasification these are all vapor fuels they burn super clean. I store a bit of propane you don't have to treat it, propane never goes bad, run it in almost any weather condition, with a load block you can go really high altitude or low altitude with the same conversion kit. I've installed a few fuel conversion generator kits.

How much adjustment of the Garretson regulator is required to get it to run smoothly on both full and eco-throtlle" ? What kind of warranty do they 'offer'?
@TheTechPrepper
@TheTechPrepper 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. I had to make almost no adjustment to the regulator for either mode. Both modes worked fine right out of the box, but I did take my flathead screwdriver and tried to adjust it anyhow. There was very little adjustment to take it from smooth to slightly smoother. I have no idea on the warranty.
