I just changed my belt this morning. It had 164,000 miles, 2012 car is 11 years old, the old belt had no wear marks or any cracks. My frined was able to do it without taking the wheel off. He did it from under the hood. It took a while but he finally got it on after about 30 minutes. Car runs great...

Stock Honda belts are very high quality. I would gamble that 120K mile OEM Honda belt would last longer than a brand new aftermarket belt. Honda tensioner is also very high quality. If it needs replacement, its almost always going to be due to the bearings in the pulley itself. So you can just replace the pulley on the stock tensioner. Better yet, buy a 6203 bearing (universal size) and replace just the bearing inside pulley (Amazon, maybe $10). Make note of how far old pulley is pressed into pulley Press old bearing out, new bearing in. Note, only ever press new bearing by its outer ring, never inner (old bearing who cares, do whatever). Find a socket that matches the bearing outer ring size to use to press bearing. Find a larger socket the bearing could fit into (or use sort section of PVC pipe, etc - Can buy a PVC 'coupler' from Home Depot). Use the larger socket or pipe to support pulley. Make sure pulley isn't touching ground, fully supported by socket or pipe. Use a press, or carefully with hammer, press old bearing out, new in, stopping when matches how far in old bearing was. Note, bearing in freezer overnight can help shrink it for easier press fit.

Thank you for this video, it helped a lot. You make it look easy! The hardest part for me was getting the belt off and especially putting the new one back on. Replacing the tensioner wasn't too bad. I bought a tool kit for removing belts from Amazon, like the thing that was shown in which you said it didn't come with the 3/4 crow foot wrench. Well mine didn't either, and the socket that did fit was too big with how tight it is around the tensioner. It is extremely tight! Even a half inch more clearance would have made things a lot easier. I ended up buying an extra long 19mm box end wrench and 19mm ratcheting wrench. The extra long wrench ended up working for me, and the zip tie trick did come in handy.

i just did mine... what i learned/did i would recommend getting a Serpentine wrench or longer wrench that fits - i used one that was about 10 inches (25 CM) w/o real issues, longer would have been better. anything shorter probably gonna have issues . i was going to use a ratchet as first as i just bought a shallow socket for this but realized the ratchet was likely too short to zip tie and using a pipe on ratchet with tension seemed like potential TIFU post. have extra zip ties before starting - i had 2, lost first one but then found it i was doing this during a sunny day, left new belt on dash to suck up sun heat energy for the little expansion i jacked side of car up and used the wheel well access - did not need to get underneath car possibly easiest thing to replace on my fit that involves more than one tool

Thanks for the tutorial. I have a 2011 honda fit . had to replace the serpentine belt + tensioner because a friend of mine i supposed he was my friend he ended up installing a wrong belt in it. It was a smaller belt and forced the tensioner's spring. The mechanic replaced the tensioner and the serpentine belt. It happens that there is a noise there of something shaking , metal like sound. People looked at the alternator, replaced the alternator 's bearing. Replaced the A/C's pulley bearing.... water pump pulley seems ok. But still, the noise happens and disappears if you turn the car on without the serpentine belt in place. I dont know what else to do. Mechanic promissed me the bearing of the tensioner is ok, because it comes with it when you buy it, but my gut tells me he might be wrong . The only left pully is the crank one ..... Noise only get loud between 500 rpm and 900 rpm. Tell me, would you live with it? Would you worry about it? Makes me afraid
