Cleaning the carb and reassembling it on a HONDA EM 5000 GENERATOR

Thanks for the video. I recently purchased one of these for a bargin that would start for a few seconds but not run. After cleaning the dickens out of the cheap aftermarket carb the problem remained. I then noticed in your video that my intake manifold gasket was different from yours, I had installed one of the inlet side gaskets and it was venting to atmosphere. I made a new test gasket out of some 12 pack cardboard, greased it and installed it, and it now runs great.

thanx for the video. my EM5000SX is 12 years old. Just quit on me in a storm. Ran beautifull for 8 hrs and died. Carburetor is my last resort. I'm hoping I went through most of the service procedures. thinking about a service center to take over I'm getting tired of this and that. Your video ma be the ticket.

I hope it helps you . Even 1 drop of water in the carburetor will stop them from ruining . T water will not pas through the carb it will stop the flow of fuel .if you drain the carb into a dish or what ever and look into the container after you drain the fuel into it . if you look to the bottom and see what looks like an air bubble its water . I really hope the video helps you .

Thanks for this video.. Been wanting to do this for this same model. Engine RPM seems to hunt when eco throttle turned off.

I have a Honda EB5000X . The carb seat was bad so you have to replace the whole carb.. Very bad design on Honda.. I bought a new on from the Honda dealer and it ran terrible . We got refunded and bought another with similar problems.. It is now been at the Honda dealer for 6 weeks.. The unit is 35 years old and runs great on the old carb but leaks when turned off because of the seat. Seem to be getting bad carbs from Japan.. Hope to see my old Honda again

Nice work. I'm going to clean mine one more time then go with a propane conversion. The corn syrup in the gas is terrible.

Thank you, well done. I let my generator sit too long without running it. Gas smells like varnish. Ooopps.

I have a Honda "EM5000is" purchased in 2012 after a hurricane. I never used this, other than starting every couple of years. I recently made the mistake of not starting it for several years and now can't get it started. I took it to my local repair center (where purchased) and they said that I need a new fuel tank, due to rust and also need a new carb. Does anyone have any input on this? I find it hard to believe that it can't be repaired for less then the quote that was given $1,100. Thanks!

Im sure if you find the right person it would be no wear near that .

Nice work sir. You sure know your stuff. When you said this is a true Honda generator does that mean mine is fake? Mine doesn't have the labels on the tank you showed and I have a em 3800 sx generator..

Hey Bud Nice Video, I replaced my carb with a new one, but im not sure where the choke cable goes. Do you hace a picture that could help?
@henryhagen82463 жыл бұрын
great video!! my issue is setting the choke lever im missing something so when i pull the choke out it does nothing the assembly is there but the tab that goes into the choke lever freely spins what am i doing wrong?

I'm working on the same generator and the carburetor was so bad that I had to replace it. When I was reassembling it, I couldn't see any way to make the manual choke device operable. If someone knows something different, please share your thoughts, but I don't believe the manual choke has any purpose on this machine because of the automatic, vacuum operated choke. It may have been cheaper to manufacture the generator with the non-active choke lever than to make a separate part without the manual lever. If you look at other Honda repair videos you will see that there is a plastic piece that fits on top of the choke assembly that is then attached to the manual choke lever when an automatic choke is not installed.

As a viewer of your video could I offer a suggestion to improve future videos? I thoroughly enjoyed the video and found it helpful but it really is not necessary to explain every minute detail, some things are self explanatory. Stay with the facts and talk about details that are not self evident. For instance, it isn't necessary to explain that you are going to remove the air cleaner or that you are going to turn the fuel on, just do it.

Hello Craig thanks for your input and I agree with you . But not mater what I do some one doesn't like how I do it . I have had several people complain I didn't explain good enough What im doing and ask for more step by step lol .I just try to help people and get complaints how I do it . I don't make much for videos anymore and don't do How to videos anymore . I appreciate your time and your opinion . And thanks for taking the time to watch and comment .
