good luck with your operation and recovery. I have had the same experience with parts coming back from the platers. To start the 'retrieval' process I soak the bits in white vinegar for an hour or so, which takes off the 'new' bright zinc plating. If you clean, without removing residues of this plating, you will again get mixed results.

It was a place in Birmingham but I've been told they've closed down now unfortunately.
