I’m just seeing this video now. Popped up out of nowhere. I did a very similar trip around the same time…July of 21. My wing was a 2017. My trip was over 7,000 miles. I left Mass, went to Charlotte, picked up a friend and we took off. We went as far as Montana, then straight south. We hit most of what you did, but a little less stops and more riding. Absolutely not one issue with that bike. It was a very hot Summer, in the upper 90’s almost the whole time. I don’t ride anymore, sold the bike, and the new owner took it to California. These bikes are made for this. BTW, I had friends in the Pocono area and rode there often. Great riding.

Thanx for the revue, got a 2021 and some of the things you mentioned they have addressed. I think that they do it so they can add them the next year and raise the price. Having said that, I got to say, this gen of the Goldwing is the best cruiser I ever owned. I've been riding since I was 7 and I'm 67 now. Owned many bikes over the years, traded in my Road Glide for this one. This is the most satisfying bike ever for me.

Agree Bill. But for a true touring bike, I needed to be refined
@roadglide2 жыл бұрын
@@Pococnosurvival 100%. Explain refined? Harley Davidson and BMW don’t have backlit handlebar switches for night riding. Harley’s horns sound like cosmetic clown noses. Harley touring bikes at their prices have no power windscreen or liquid cooling. Among other new world technologies. The Gold Wing since your bike made some critical enhancements. Enhancements that should have been done when they rolled out this generation in 2018. But like Apple, it seems, Honda holds onto updates to do them for the next year. Maybe they got hammered with feedback and looked at each other and said, they messed up. Not sure of this, but it seems to me if you are going to update your most successful Touring model after 40+ years one would think or hope Honda would have had conducted numerous Focus groups at the nations large Rallies. The larger trunk, enough to accommodate 2 full face expensive helmets with comm modules, sufficient hand rails, placement of controls, stereo, gas tank access, charging port and large enough for Ultra size smart phones or whatever else bothered the many Fans of this wonderful bike in the past. Many of these items might have made that wish list in 2018. Information is suppose to be power. Of course all this comes at a price. For perspective though…The current price of this Gold Wing is on par with a “technology bare” Harley Davidson Road or Street Glide, Ultra Classic. Then there is premium branded BMW with it’s K1600 GT/GTL or Grand America, or Yamaha Star Venture Trans Continental. All brands have less, some far less tech and features than the legendary Gold Wing. Just perspective. Honda are no dummies. They priced it as they see it. Compare and decide. Ride safe and ride often.

2018 GW DCT Tour: The radio that came with the bike worked great! But the bluetooth would not connect. Honda sent a replacement radio / communications unit to be installed. After that the bluetooth worked correctly, but now I only get a few 3-4 radio stations at best, and worse near a big rig or building. So they replaced the antenna. That didn't help at all. I ended up adding about $1k worth of extra's that some should have come with the bike just as you stated, like a cigarette and USB charge ports. I do like the added garage door opener though. Another nice feature is that most every button on the handle bars light up at night so you can tell what it is. Even my BMW does not do that. My big things why I bought this was for the walking forward and reverse feature that switches direction smoothly, and the DCT automatic transmission with manual mode. The bike learns your shift patterns or you can manuual shift in automatic or manual modes. It is a big bike that acts like a small lighter bike.

If not, standard silicone earplugs should do the job.

Great review. Hit al the strengths and weaknesses that most people find with this bike. The transcontinental touring machine was the market created decades ago by this bike. So we redesign it. 6.6 to 5.5 gallon gas tank. still no running boards. Cant fit a helmet anywhere, never mind 2. Side bags as well as top box used to be able to, not anymore. How much would the garage door opener and trunk light add to the $30k price? $20? Then Honda says to cover their ass and say that they found most people take weekend trips and not weeks long cross country trips. What a cop out. Why then did they correct a number of things for 2021? Because they knew they strayed away from the market they created. Some people just think the bike has to be perfect to be appreciated. Better handling, smaller lighter, true but try and be honest with yourself of the new models short comings as well as its strengths.

Correct. I think they made it smaller to attract a different crowd and it back fired. It looks good all slimmed down, but not functional for long trips. I would have no complaints if it was a 19,500 bike, but at 30k, I am going to bitch about it
