The steel plates are....well steel, they can't absorb anything. You don't need to soak them, just get some oil on them before installing. The clutch plate just needs to align with the splines on the basket. It doesn't need to be installed at a certain point, just need to make sure the splines actually line up and seat(hence why you said "this clutch actually went on two different places", it should go in every single place that the splines align.) This clutch in general looked fine. Why did you rebuild the plates? Wasn't any heated parts and the friction plates looked like they had life on them? You also called the steel plates the friction plates.....Please please please use a torque wrench when dealing with internal engine components. That's the last thing you need is something coming loose or something breaking because it's too tight. Nice video, just needs a little better knowledge is all. Still good walk through

@GromGarage

Number 15 is the piece that goes into the hole on the clutch cover, it’s what presses out when you pull the clutch lever. If you pull the arm on the clutch cover it should extend out on the inside. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Could be a couple things. Old oil, bent shift shaft, or maybe you need the shift shaft support bearing. But you can also take apart the clutch to see if everything is good inside of it

If you do wheelies then you will know when you try really hard to pull up a wheelie you normally do fine and it doesn’t kick/pop like it did. Most of the time the best thing is to ask someone more knowledgeable that has a similar setup and then get their opinion

I bought a used Grom with 2500 miles. Not too confident that proper maintenance was done to it, or how careful it was driven. Doubt it had an oil change before I got it (hopefully, but not confident). I did an oil change once I got the bike. How could I know if the clutch is going bad? The Grom is my first bike so I'm not really sure how it should feel or anything, but I've gotten a comment that I may have been riding the clutch, or my assumption, the guy before me rode it out and may have burnt it pretty good? Again, I'm a rookie at all of this but I believe it's not how it should be, but I could be wrong. Thank you in advance!

Hey man. I want to get stiffer springs and a better clutch plate. I’m thinkin if the 60% stiffer springs with a chimera CNC clutch plate. What do you think ? I wasn’t thinking about changing the friction plates just the springs and plate. What’s the benefit of doing the friction plates??
@GromGarage
@GromGarage 6 жыл бұрын
You will be fine with doing just the springs and the pressure plate. Friction plates will just have better grab, so they won't slip as easy

Quick question on the cover case. Is there a piece that can fall out off the cover? I think it connect to the clutch cable arm? How does that seat in the cover?
@GromGarage
@GromGarage 5 жыл бұрын
There’s a little cylinder metal piece that connects through the clutch cable like you said. This is what actually makes contact with the bearing/rpm plate to “activate” the clutch. Not really sure what your exact question is but there is a little piece, it goes in the inside of the clutch cover. Bolt down the clutch cover before you attempt to add the clutch cable line.. hopefully this helps

@GromGarage
@GromGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Get the rear wheel off the ground, when the clutch is adjusted properly you should be able to put the bike in 1st and the wheel shouldn’t spin freely, then pull the clutch all the way in and it should spin, you don’t need to turn the bike on for the test. Also, if it either spins all the time or never spins then try the adjustment on the clutch cable on top of the clutch cover taken off in the video

what happened to your kitaco clutch cover? i thought that was a good idea to get one
@GromGarage
@GromGarage 3 жыл бұрын
This is my friend Tyler’s bike. I used the kitaco clutch cover on my og and loved it. On my new grom (which is a sf) I am still running the oem clutch cover. The kitaco gives you more horsepower and easier oil changes. But for wheelies, (which I now do) you need all the torque you can get (removing the oil spinner increases hp but loses a little torque) Hopefully this helps
@jbeezy126
@jbeezy126 3 жыл бұрын
@@GromGarage definitely helps! I’m stunting mine out too. I thought removing the spinner would give more torque but I guess it’s the opposite. You would think by taking that off that the bike would have more torque because the drive train has less stress.
@GromGarage
@GromGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Yea... when you get rid of that, apparently, it gets rid of rotating mass which in theory helps drive the bike or helps the clutch pop with more “mass” behind it... In the end, it was what I was told and I can’t tell a difference from my bike and a bike with the cover... but every little bit helps... (plus it saved me some money)
