I had 2 friends that both owned a 5th gen prelude. One of them was f20b swapped and the other was a unreliable h22a4 that broke probably every other day. My friend with the f20b swapped Honda prelude is who got me into cars, he would take me to car meets and teach me new things all the time. They both got me really into Preludes and I hope to be starting on my project on one soon.

I have always wanted one and finally found a 1999 5th gen base model , 4sp with a tiptronic automatic trans, 98k miles, one owner, with Honda 2000 rims and tires. Even stock it’s a fucking amazing and super underrated Honda. I’m keeping it completely stock and hunting for another to build. I’m a firm believer in any Honda 2014 and below. Fuck earth dreams.

I cannot wait for my first start. I have a 97 sh I converted back to base. Fully built bottom end also darton wet mid sleeves. Around 27k in parts currently. Planning on 600hp to start. Got a t2w4 lsd transmission. Crower valvetrain and cams Carillo 9:1pistons garett g25-660 turbo. 850fab turbo manifold. Turbosmart wastegate Mac 4port boost solenoid crowers h beam rods crower stroker crankshaft lightened and balanced aem fpr aem rail skunk pro intake manifold and port matched tb. Id1050x injectors. Hondata s300 Wahlbro 450. Full an fitting conversion. Stage 5 single disc competition clutch 4 puck. Can't wait till I get it running.

Great vids! Not enough Prelude content on the KZbin. A good friend of mine had a 96 SR-V Gen 4 when we were in high school. That was it. Fell in love with Preludes then. My folks got me a 85 Gen 2 when I graduated (2000) and my girlfriend, now wife, had a 91 SR Gen 3, at that time. Now I have a 2000 SH Gen 5. It’s my “summer car” / “cool Dad car” LOL. Love Preludes.

Oh yeah man I’ve been waiting for this one! When I was a kid my uncle had gotten a 5th gen prelude sh as his first car and I instantly fell in love with them. Being a little kid at the time a full bolt on prelude seemed like a race car lol.

Good stuff! 5th Gen has always my MUST OWN car. I’ve had 2 different 4th Gen, but 5th was the one i wanted. It is my LifeLong car that will be with me till the end. Eventually a “full resto” would be nice to accomplish but little by little it will get done.

What inspired me to get in this platform was owning my first 97 accord and when I was told it had a prelude transmission I got curious , a year later got my first 5th gen and wrecked it from suspension failure. Insurance gave me 1,500k and I got another 5th gen a week later

Great video my son is looking at a 96 don’t know anything about Hondas I’m a ls v8 guy but we’re fixing to dive into one he wants to turbo it but it’s a automatic trying to talk him into a manual he wants to make around 400? Hp don’t think it will handle it he will have to find out the hard way you gave a lot of good information thanks

I always wanted a Honda, and when it came time to buy my first car, a Prelude was listed recently and locally. The car started and idled, I didn't even test drive it and bought it. Same year as me, a 98. Automatic, so I'll have to fix that when it breaks. You just don't see them around anymore, it's all civics accords and SUVs.

I have a h23a Darton sleeved, o rings, Wiseco 10-1 pistons, Carrillo pro rods and fully ported 4 piston head, skunk pro 1 cams etc getting ready to go together soon. Still need a turbo and supporting mods but am getting there. I’m looking at a borg Warner s366 maybe. Takes time to do all this for sure.

Appreciate the video and info, great job! I want to swap that 4.06FD on my M2a4 I already did that 5th swap .685 and don’t like it at all. Thinking of switching back to the .787 5th and doing that 4.06FD, my question is do you have to change the countershaft along with the ring gear? I have a F22 trans laying around and the countershaft is different length from the m2a4.

When her '09 got totaled she said what if we get a Prelude project car? That hadn't been on my radar, but I looked them up and said aha I understand: Prelude is to CRX as MGB is to MG Midget. (The first manual sportscar I ever rode in was my sister's CRX, and I used to own an MGB.) We got my wife a '99 5th gen, but it needed a transmission swap. I bought a 96 almost sight unseen (it was dark) for parts, being a little hazy on whether 96 was also 5th gen or 4th gen. When they rolled it out I was like, uh, is this even the same kind of car? But after we got it home I was like, sorry we're going to have to find you parts somewhere else; this 4th gen is going to be my car.

Straight goals. Question tho, I didn’t think it was a good idea to go with a stage 2 na cam. Something with the amount of overlap an na cam has vs a turbo cam can rob power? Or the cams can’t handle tho boost? Great build, and video tho! I bought my first prelude in 2013 as my first car. Bone stock. It went under the knife 3 years ago and I painted it ebp blue, swapped out the a4 motor with a true euro r h22, and I built the head with all crower valvetrain, and a set of stage 2 crower an cams! My old a4 is now on the chopping block for boost!

Stick a small ebay turbo kit on it. 300hp is very easily achievable with stock internals. Your only asking for 100 more hp. Now if you want to go past 300hp your gonna have a lot of work to do if you want it to last.

The counter shaft and ring gear from early 90's accord with a f22 engine and 5 speed transmission. There's many charts on forms with all the difference gear ratio's that will show what years will work. Then you just swap the parts into your's making sure to check for good gear alignment with the original slims. Mine has worked really well and has aloud me to stay in each gear longer, control power easyer, finally have more top end speed in 4th or 5th good luck thanks for watching👍

My first car was a 99 prelude with a h22. I currently have a 91 ba5 prelude with a b20a that I plan on swapping a h22. It's a shame I didn't keep my 99, would've made it easier and cheaper 🤣

How much were your motor mounts?

They are new stock mounts that I filled with 75a polyurethane. The polyurethane was 85$ I think for 2L container thats the smallest incould find. Mounts maybe 100$ and my time. Made a Big difference as far as stopping tire hop from a dead stop, or if you start to spin the tire it is really smooth and controlled but added vibrations in the car is the downside.

I have a friend who work on Honda dealerships and they told me that you cannot put a turbo on a H22A because you might blow up the Engine. Let me know your commenter🙏🏻.

An h22a block uses frm sleeves. They are an aluminum/carbon fiber hybrid sleeve. They can't handle more than 10-15 psi or so for extended periods of time. Only one option of pistons exists for the frm sleeves. Mahle pistons. Not to mention if you have an sh model the atts unit cannot handle more than 300hp without breaking. It's basically a traction assistant unit. If you sleeve an h22 which costs around $2500 depending on machine shop, your options are unlimited. I've seen h22's in the 1100 hp range.

Well it depends, some of the very first year h22's had steel liners in a closed deck. Almost None of them are like that. A h22a1 has a closed deck block with frm sleeves .H22a4 has a open deck and frm sleeves. The h22a1 can take the power with rods and frm safe forged pistons "one company makes the pistons". It's hard to make frm sleeves and forged pistons work thats why they just sleeve the block but Just watch pfi when they dyno a built stock frm block h22a1 and it makes 800+ hp to the wheel. The problem is the stock pistons are cast they can't take the power...safe is 325ish, frm sleeves and forged pistons don't get along well. Long story short stock block h22a1 or h22a4 keep it less than 325whp it will live. Above that power you need lots of supporting parts, there are many ways to do it. It just costs alot compared to other engine platforms.

What got me into preludes that my dad has own one sense 2011 he has a 1999 Honda prelude SH an I had alway liked cars an we got in to a friendly argument that these cars are cheap an he did not believe me an so I showed him how cheap some go for. So he told me to message to people an I did and they got be and he got me a Honda prelude base for $1300. Then we got a part prelude for $120 with a engine it has a lot of good parts. Then his daily went out on him so he took over my prelude. But then I found a clean prelude no Engine and transmission for $500 and now we are going to junk his daily and put it in to the prelude we got for $500 so that’s how I got in to preludes. Ps I am years 15 old And my dad got in to prelude by his mom’s Friends son that had a 5th gen prelude base that was a auto. that was when the car was new all of the prelude we have are 5th gens
