A series Hybrid system to be exact, below cruising speed even when the petrol engine is On it does drive the front wheels but power on of the electric generator which in turn supplies the other electric motor to give power to the front wheels.

The stated 82 mg CO2 emissions are not WLTP measuring standard, but something else Honda use to get that impressive number, it will say 109 mg on your registration (in Europe at least). It was a bit of surprise for me when I bought my Jazz Crosstar. Fuel economy wise, I found quite a difference depending on weather, in high or low temperatures when air conditioning or heating are always on, it can easily add 1l per 100km. One tip from personal experience, I love the ECON button, it limits engine to reach high revs, makes ride much quieter, even if I floor the accelerator, but car is still dynamic enough from battery.

Had to get rid of my 7 year old Ford Transit connect because of ulez, . Having a road test in the Yarris I was really impressed as I had never driven a automatic before. I had never considered a Jazz until a friend of mine told me he had just ordered one. After having a road test I was really impressed and felt it far superior to the yarris . After having it now for 18 months and 11000 miles the only concern I have is remembering to turn off the road departure system every time I start up and missing potholes in the road as the suspension is pretty firm. On a run I often get over 70 mpg and around town low 50s. The magic seats have been really helpful when carrying large objects. The 5 year service plan is good but obviously that is part of the price. It just remains to be seen if the Honda reliability will carry on with a hybrid.

Hooray at last you have reviewed a decent car. long term this car will be a good buy due to its good build quality, reliability and economy. Will be pretty quiet on a motorway due to its good sound insulation and thicker side glass. Yes it is a bit pricey but if you can afford it will be worth every penny.

Uh…. About acceleration, it *is* a pure electric model when moving from a standstill, petrol engine only drives directly at higher speeds (and even then only when it has to for max economy). Having had one for a year now I suspect it might have been in eco mode when, yeah, there’s a pause to make sure it’s being as efficient as possible. Take it out of eco, stop, plant your foot and it’s seriously rapid for its class. Believe a certain other car reviewer did a 0-60 test that came in under 9 seconds….

Ready for a hybrid Fit, I live in the US. I bought a Fit after renting a Jazz in Italy. It’s basically the same car. My 2009 is still great, but starting to show it’s age.

Sadly Honda quit making the Fit for US Market. Final model year was 2020. So doubtful we'll see the hybrid version here. I own the 2015 Fit myself and would have loved to see the hybrid when I was shopping for a new Honda.

Says you wont find any other vehicle in the same class with this economy. Yes you will. The Madza 2 hybrid and Toyota Yaris Hybrid, both have far better MPG. As for the ride quality, cars were far more comfortable thirty years ago. Too many cars these days have firm suspension and low profile tyres. A perceived image seems more important than anything else. Style over function doesn't win it for me.

I went to look at one today in Milan, where I live, and the salesman told me that the Crosstar was no longer available and they could only offer the normal Jazz in a choice of blue or white. In fact since this Jazz was launched I have seen exactly 2 on the road here, and when spent a month driving round the UK in August I saw none. It appears that it has not been a sales success

Same here in Croatia. While older generations were popular and I see them quite often (and they still hold their price well as used vehicles), I have never seen a new model on the roads here.

“Mild hybrid power”. Its NOT a mild hybrid It’s a full hybrid. The difference is night and day. ‘Mild hybrid’ - marketing gimmick. Adds a 48v battery to power radio, air con, electric start/stop etc. Hybrid - small lithium battery able to power the car without engine assistance, notably assists engine in acceleration. Swaps between engine and electric mode. The great thing about the Jazz is it goes a step further than a normal hybrid, powering the car mainly with the electric motor rather than the engine. The engine acts as a generator only, like an EV that runs on petrol, interesting set up and means you have torque and speed with no sacrifice to the fuel efficiency expected from a hybrid. In fact the only time I’ve noticed it running on the engine is at motorway speeds where it seems to lock into a 6th gear around 65/70mph
@theduden
@theduden Жыл бұрын
Right. That's the main highlight of Honda's hybrid tech. Since the car is basically run using EV motor, only a little % of energy is lost in transmission when compared to transmission loss in ICE.

Good enjoyable review. 11.35, it is I feel important to stress that regenerative braking does not give you more range, it simply gives you back 'some' of the range you lost because you had to brake.
@OsvUkVehicleSupply
@OsvUkVehicleSupply Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Graham 👍 We appreciate the clarification
@Bullcutter
@Bullcutter Жыл бұрын
Your definition of regenerative braking is incorrect! It does indeed put energy into hybrid battery and increases the range- see Wiki article on regenerative braking.
@Grahamvfr
@Grahamvfr Жыл бұрын
@@Bullcutter it can't increase range otherwise all you woukd have to do is keep braking and you woukd go forever. Energy cannot be created it can only be transferred ( basic chemistry/physics). Therefore you recover 'some' not all of the kinetic energy that you lost (transferred to friction) by braking. If you hadn't braked you would have covered a greater distance than you could from braking and then using the energy recovered to carry on.
@Bullcutter
@Bullcutter Жыл бұрын
@Grahamvfr You've put yourself into a circular intellectual 'straight jacket!' I'll try to straighten it: When you brake in a vehicle that uses regenerative braking, the motor that was driving the vehicle is immediately put into a generator mode. It generates electricity and charges the propulsion battery. But as soon as current starts to flow into the battery, the generator stiffens and slows the car down! The amount of energy is not large because the generation only takes place when the car is braking- a few seconds. That's why you can't keep braking and increasing the range! Nevertheless, regenerative braking does increase the range by a small amount. This is the motion energy that would have gone to waste that a regenerative braking generates and saves in the propulsion battery.
@Grahamvfr
@Grahamvfr Жыл бұрын
@@Bullcutter yes I know.... I think you missed my reason for my comment. . I apologise. My comment was made because people think regenerative braking increases the overall range of the vehicle, which it can't, but ofcourse it puts charge into the battery. However it only increases the range compared to a vehicle without regenerative braking. Do you agree that if you start a journey on full battery and never have to slow down, you will cover more miles than the same car that is having to slow/brake a lot throughout the journey, even if its got regenerative braking.

It is full hybrid, not mild hybrid. I have a 2020 Yaris Excel & I regularly get 65-70 mpg so I would dispute the Jazz has the best fuel consumption in class. The Yaris is fun to drive.

i've had both, the honda and toyota hybrid systems function differently, so maybe they vary on the scenario, I only recall minimal differences. I would prefer the jazz/fit for the interior room and a bit more space inside. The yaris looks nice and is higher up for bad backs, while there is nothing wrong with it i went with honda as it was zippier. i wouldnt choose a european brand outside of europe for whatever reason

Today a 25 miles trip, some urban, mainly country roads. Average consumption 91.1 mpg. Average consumption, actually measured (Spritmonitor) during some 20 months: 61.2 mpg. I regularly get 65-70 mpg too, sometimes less (short trips in winter!) sometimes more (today). Only when you really start measuring... 🤔 Oh, almost forgot... we are very happy driving a spacious, comfortable and economical Jazz. 🎷🎺 🎼🎶🎵🎶

I want it in petrol, not Hybrid. And I want a manual gearbox. I don’t want to pay extra for an auto gearbox and I don’t want space in the car taken up by a battery and I don’t want the extra weight of a battery. Why are men obsessed with alloy wheels, by the way? As long as they’re round, with one at each corner, what more do you want? I don’t carry pushchairs in my Jazz, I carry things like kitchen tables, which the old petrol Jazz had plenty of room for. A cupholder in the central console is not good when you’re right-handed. The previous (petrol) Jazz had two cupholders in the dashboard itself, one of which was on the right hand side of the steering wheel, so perfect for a right handed driver to reach when having lunch in the car. You refer to leather seats but it’s actually faux leather.
