I've had three; they're reliable and roomy, apart from the infantile wannabe racing driver world of car reviewers who prefer unreliable German models and perceived quality. I've never had a mechanical failure in any of the three I've owned.

This is a great car and much better than its German, French and Ford rivals when you take in to account Hondas reputation for ease of use and reliability. The only downside is that it looks boring in white. The Crosstar is better looking in my opinion. I think at the not inconsiderable price they charge for all makes of small cars, all paint colours should be included in the standard price. In this day of faceless corporations and lacklustre customer service e.g. VW, Mercedes PSA group, Honda is still a family owned business and that is why the company take pride in what they manufacture.

Only filled tank once since bought and average mpg was mid 50's. Difference is that motorway milage is 50 and city driving can be near to 100! I do live at the top of a hill and always see the milage/battery drop on last mile. Ignoring the fuel the car drives very well, on twisty country roads, and is just as good on busy city roads. Acceleration is super smooth and it glides away from junctions. Bottom line is my wife, for the first time ever, gave a positive opinion!!! She has told many friends how good it is.

What's that about a "trashy and noisy" CVT-gearbox? The Jazz doesn't have a gearbox - which is part of it's ingenuity. Obviously the tester didn't quite get that...
@kerryjones1508
@kerryjones1508 3 жыл бұрын
Of course it has a gearbox. It changes gears itself.
@nielshoebeke7507
@nielshoebeke7507 3 жыл бұрын
@@kerryjones1508 It does not (ever) change gear - leave alone by "itself". The internal combustion engine (ICE) is either used for only charging the battery or for driving the wheels. Between the wheels and the ICE there's nothing that alters torque and speed (which is what a gearbox serves to). There's direct drive - end of story.
@kerryjones1508
@kerryjones1508 3 жыл бұрын
@@nielshoebeke7507 Rubbish. How would you connect an engine to the wheels with no gearing. Cogs etc. Don’t bother replying.
@nielshoebeke7507
@nielshoebeke7507 3 жыл бұрын
@@kerryjones1508 Aha, I see... From your rather unkind reply it follows that to your "knowledge" a gearbox serves to connect the engine to the wheels. In truth though, the engine's crank shaft is connected to the wheels (or, in case of a ship: the propeller) through the drive shaft. In the case of Honda's current Hybrid system, there's no gearbox to allow (or to necessitate) for speed and thus torque differences between the drive shaft (and thus the wheels) on the one hand and the crank shaft (engine rpm) on the other. But it's exactly for allowing for these differences (and not for any connection purpose as such) that cars (and ships, and trucks, lawn mowers,...) are normally equipped with a (manual, automatic or continuously variable (CVT) gearbox). In order for that gearbox to work, it of course needs to be connected to to both the engine (the crank shaft) and the wheels (the drive shaft). In the case of Honda's Hybrids, the electric motors are there for city and other "slow" driving with the ICE only driving the wheels at higher speeds (engine mode), thus allowing for it to be directly connected to the drive shaft (the rotation speed of which is than equal to that of the crank shaft by which it is directly driven). Feel free to answer and say "thank you". But this is all very basic. So you might want to get yourself a decent book to study and understand the essentials of drive trains (in general) or visit some websites and KZbin channels on engineering. You'll certainly learn from it. After which you can then maybe start some sensible discussions (on the internet or elsewhere).

Very unfortunate this is not available in the U.S. Honda has mis-read the market, over-reacting to the popularity of rugged crossovers and under-estimating the demand for greater fuel economy in a versatile subcompact. The Fit (especially the Crosstar trim) with AWD would sell like crazy.

Weird how even when you were being positive it came across reluctantly rather than genuine praise. I own a Yaris GRMN and test drove a new Jazz and thought it was a great (not so) little car. Unless you mash your foot to the floor like some boy racer, the CVT is perfectly fine. Perfect daily driver that’s does everything.

Given the scores of reviews under you belt the question I'm about to put to you is probably impossible to answer but please give it a go Mr Dennison, viz: regarding the poor ride quality in town that you remarked on (jittery over potholes etc), would you say that the Jazz is worse in this respect than the Clio hybrid? The other day I test drove the latter beast and found its town ride quality appalling. How does the Jazz compare? Or when it comes to dealing with urban road imperfections is the Japanese product actually better than the French competitor in your view...? Over to you.

Been a while since I drove the two cars but the Jazz’s ride comfort was good at higher speeds and acceptable at lower speeds. I remember expecting a little more - given it’s by no means a sporty car - but that’s quite subjective. On the whole it is a comfortable small car - if not the *most* comfortable - and it is definitely more comfortable than the Clio. JD

Thank you very much indeed for your prompt reply. I truly don't mean to unduly encroach further on your workload but, finally I promise, would you please be kind enough to enlarge (if possible, though I appreciate that it may not be so seeing it's a long time ago that you reviewed the Clio E‐tech) on your comment when you say "The Jazz is definitely more comfortable than the Clio". You've opined that it's particularly comfortable on the motorway, fine, but what interests me above all is do you consider the Jazz to be less 'able' to deal with POTHOLES than the latest Clio - or isn't there much between them in this area? For me the bottom line is this: which car in your view has the BETTER RIDE QUALITY ●IN TOWN●? I find that the latest Clio fails miserably in this latter connection and, furthermore, its ride quality around 30 mph leaves not a little but a very great deal to be desired... ... Does the Jazz 'cope' better, worse, or about the same when it comes to these things? When it comes to levels of comfort I'm less concerned about how well the vehicle's seats support me but very much concerned with the composure, or lack of it, when it's forced to deal with road imperfections etc. In passing, whenever I'm in the market to change my car I read and absorb literally as many reviews as I can via which to get a general 'feel' of the contender for my wallet. I don't flatter you for as much as a moment in declaring that in my book you not only outshine every single one of your road‐test counterparts, you do so by a huge margin. There are mercifully no jingles accompanying your reports and no verbal faff whatsoever, you always get straight to the point and immediately; never a wasted word and sans flooding us with technical rigmarole. In short you're a consummate professional.

Yes, from memory the Jazz is the more comfortable car than the Clio in urban areas. If that’s your priority, however, cars like the VW Polo and Ford Fiesta (providing you avoid the largest wheels) deliver a better ride in and around town. Consider them if you can, as they will be an improvement - low-speed comfort wise - over the Jazz. Thanks for the kind words, I’m very glad you are enjoying the reviews. JD

Rather poorly researched review. The competitors would most likely be other hybrid models (Toyota Yaris being the most obvious, Renault Clio E-tech being another notable rival however not specifically referenced in this review), however against ICE rivals, the hybrids would appear pricey. If reviewed as a hybrid, this would discount the Fiesta (only a mild hybrid option) and 208 (either ICE or electric only). None of the rivals mentioned have anywhere close to as clever/spacious interior packaging as the Jazz. Very poor explanation of the hybrid powertrain, a fairly new system only featured in the Honda CRV (at least in the UK), essentially being an electric powertrain with a petrol generator under normal driving (no mention of the small battery capacity and therefore lower weight compared to rival hybrids). The gearbox isn't a CVT - it's labelled E-CVT by Honda (however is actually a planetary gear set i.e. no gears). Also the recommendations for company car drivers don't make any sense - the SE comes with a much smaller 5 inch screen which doesn't feature the Android auto/Apple CarPlay which is featured in the video (which comes in on the SR and above), so essentially useless for any navigational purposes, a must for most company car drivers. Please do some research before the next review.
