I owned one of these in the 90s it had a custom paint job a carbon race can kn filter and dyno jet kit in the carbs, on the dyno it put out 60 bhp at the back wheel it was a great bike but if you rode it in traffic on a sunny day it felt like a oven, I wished I still had it today.

I had a 1986 VFR750FG, the FG stood for F-ing goes. That bike was way ahead of its time, once uncorked, the only thing that had more legs back in the 80s was FJ1200 a bike with almost twice the displacement. A friend I rode with had slightly modified VFR and it could keep up with my 98 CBR900RR. It could still hang with modern sport bikes GSX & CBR 600s 15 years down the road, easily out torquing them. At the Tokyo motor show I saw Honda introduce a new VFR 1200 with a dual clutch.

I have had 2 of the genuine 750cc 1986 Honda V4's, awesome bikes and yes, way ahead of it's time. My last one made 106 bhp on a dynojet 150, so maybe 88-93 on my current dyno. The chassis was sort of crap with the 16"/18" wheel combo but all in all it was a rockin ride!

I agree for a 4t engine the V4 fits the bill perfectly for bikes and gives an engine sound so perfect to my ears. One of these days an RC45 and RC30 will find their way home with me. I passed on a crated RC45 last year for $28k and a salvage title bike for $18k...they need to come down a little more...please! One a side note my Aprilia RSV4-R demo in white came in today, too bad the forecast for the rest of the week is snow and freezing temps/rain.

What other performance mods have you done to her except an RVF exhaust, can, removed snorkel, and assuming you've increased the main jets to cope? 54bhp is an OK reading, but without heavy mods you can get 10hp more than that. Alex

Because it sounds cooler honestly, the 1-2 bhp gain was not worth the trouble but the intake noise is!

The bike only had a well used M4 slip on from some other bike and the intake snorkel removed from the airbox along with jetting and the HRC CDI unit, otherwise all stock parts. The NC30's just make lovely music, nothing more than a slip-on pipe really required to enjoy the sound.

About 130mph at the rev limiter with the gearing that was on for that test, same gearing the bike ran last when raced at Texas World Speedway years ago.

Like the V8 engine in cars, the V4 in bikes has something special, the best of all worlds. The V5 is a hybrid that is also impressive if not as well balanced. Once you've had one everything else seems lacking somehow.

That depends on how hard you like to ride. I think the unrestricted cbr would be more fun than a restricted NC30. I have unrestricted MC22 and NC30 and the MC22 is a great bike. I get to rev up to 16k on the roads, thats nuts! If your more tame tho get a restricted NC30 as it wont rev nearly as much.

Daniel Madden My restricted NC30 still revs to 15k? same as stock, only difference is I only get 33bhp :( lol, until this September ;)

Nice. Does it take longer for it to get up there though compared to the un-restricted one? I had a shot of one before and I definately noticed the bike being alot slower rev's, maybee was just the bike. There both super cool bikes tho with real race pedigree.

Daniel Madden I can only assume it does mate as a standard NC30 has about 52bhp. It won't speed up as fast because your getting about half the fuel through the carbs so naturally it will be slower. The fastest i've had is about 102mph, which is about right compared to like a ninja 250 which is slightly faster top end (because its lighter than a nc30). I cannot wait to get these stupid washers out the bike! lol

I have always like the Translogic models of QS systems but this bike does not have one on it, simply letting off the throttle slightly and upshifting by hand. Glad you thought it was that smooth though!

You can get 70 + bhp out of this little bike with the right set up .

I have a Japan titled street NC30 with a LOT of spares including a rolling NC35 chassis, $3500 takes the roller, the street bike and the spares, also included is a set or two of race plastics...me needs a new V4 from Noale to take home.

Different type of dyno, I right there with power, another 2 or so is easy enough to get with a little leaner main jets. Bike is basically stock other than end can, jetting and airbox mod.
