I own the 2015 model (1 sport mode) and I am over the moon with the DCT. I've always ridden manual transmissions, but after I got rheumatism, I wasn't able to ride my FJR1300 anymore. So I sold it and bought a new NC750XD. Tough I was glad I could continue riding a motorcycle without the looks of a scooter, I thought I would miss the power and ride quality the FJR gave me. But how wrong I was... Zero to 100 kph in 6 seconds (while waving LOL) is quick enough for most occasions and taking mountain passes all day goes without fatigue. I wouldn't swap the NC for anything else as I think it fits my wishes perfectly. It's more than powerful enough for solo riding with luggage, it's stable like an ocean cruiser, it's very affordable to own and ride (I get 65 mpg easily, always in sport mode but if I need to, I can get it up to 95 mpg without much effort). And the DCT is a dream, my fellow bikers say that my average speed on twisty roads is much higher than with the FJR. Probably due to the lower weight, extreme low CoG and smooth power and transmission. I made some improvements to my bike for better handling and comfort, like very grippy street tyres (Pirelli Angels), progressive shocks (Hyperpro), a fully automatic chain oiler (Pro-Oiler with GPS receiver) and a adjustable tall screen (MadStad 20 inch). I hope I can enjoy it for many years to come.

I own one for about a year and I love it. As you say it is a real camel, I do 40 km (sorry it is metric but I am in Spain) a day commuting to work and I average 3.1 l/100 km which is almost 76 mpg. That is incredible but truth I am a very careful driver and almost never speed. I made also a long trip (350 miles) getting more or less same average consumption. It is the PERFECT commuting bike, great mileage, cheap maintenance and if you enter cities it converts into a scooter with the DCT transmission. Best of both worlds. LED lights are wonderful but the display is too small and you need to use the buttons to go through the menus instead of having a button in the handlebar. We are in 2018 and we are used to bigger screen in our cells and something like that would have been welcome. Something like KTM TFT screens, Honda's on the other hand look cheap and old. This is 2018 again great screens are taking for granted with Bluetooth..... For long travels, it lacks some power , a bit more tank capacity (despite being a camel a couple more gallons would be welcome), and above all a better wind protection. Windscreen is good enough for small distances but during a long travel better protection would be nice. Last not least I found the seat a bit too stiff for long rides. All in all it is again perfect for commuting with the possibility of some travelling. If you are in a city a scooter is better but if yo have to drive a few miles in a highway like I do to get to downtown then this bike in unbeatable I am sure in a few years all bikes will have DCT or some similar solutions. Many bikes now are using quickshifters to remove the need to use the clutch, next will come the DCT. Just like cars, more and more cars are automatic even in Europe where we were reluctant and deemed automatic transmission something for Americans who cannot work a manual transmission (shame on us). Now you only buy manual if your budget does not allow an automatic

I had a 2017 dct version of this bike. I went out for a scooter, didn’t like the riding position, the Honda dealer proposed to try the nc750x and I bought it. The dct is very nice in 90% of the time. Impossible to stall the bike. The storage compartment is very handy. And it is economic to drive. What I didn’t like? Very expensive Honda maintenance. The storage was too small to store my full face helmet. The rear view mirror was unsafe, it always had a blind spot. The abs for the brakes activates way too quickly. The gas cap is in a weird position under the pillion seat. If you spill a little gas, it get on your seat. Gas capacity is also quite low. The dct stays in too high a gear in corners. This lead to a shocking motion out of the corner. The side stand stand didn’t go forward enough, it made me drop the bike accidentally. The dct makes it difficult to drive at low speeds. I found a workaround by using the rear brake. And weirdly, the bike didn’t command a lot of respect from car drivers. I was regularly pushed of the road, cars didn’t give me enough space, etc. Anyway, I switched to a bmw gs and never looked. I admit, the two bikes are not in the same class, not in the same price range. But for me personally, the gs was well worth it.

As someone who is learning to ride (manual) I would be concerned about cornering and u-turns without a clutch to disengage to engage at slow speeds. To me, using the rear brake only might have me pressing too hard and falling over. At least, that's what I think would happen. :/

Same here, 195cm , sitting comfortably and relaxed, without feeling crammed. I changed windshield against a higher Puig with spoiler which takes away a lot of pressure. @Diesel6Power
@Diesel6Power 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can operate the bike without at all thinking about shifting, only throttle, breaks and steering...
@IntoxicatedDriver
@IntoxicatedDriver 4 жыл бұрын
As @DieselPower said. In addition, you can shift gears yourself manually in any mode, using the up- and downshift paddles, but the gear shifted to won't "stick" unless the automatic would have chosen the same gear somewhat later anyway. The manual override lasts about 2 seconds. It will also refuse to let you downshift if that'd exceed engine max rpm. Useful for engine braking. Or you just don't interfere, and let the gearbox do all shifting - and it does a decent job picking the proper gear, except for engine braking while not decending: it doesn't recognize such intention of yours. Unless you switch to "Manual" mode - which isn't entirely manual only: the automatic will downshift when engines rpm get too low. But it won't upshift - instead you'll run into rev limiter.

@@BassOutcast o I’ve had the same experience. This pony loves to run at top speed. You really have to pay attention to acceleration on the highway. I went from the Yamaha FJR1300 (sport tourer) which was my dream bike to the Honda NC750x DCT which turned out to be my ideal bike! The FJR was the best motorcycle I’ve ever owned in my 30 plus years of riding; bigger, bolder, heavier, and much faster than my NC750x DCT. After I sold the FJR - because of a busier career and less time to ride - months later, I found that I had missed the freedom that only a biker knows. Riding was, for me, the best therapy to counteract the inevitable and compounding stress that creeps up on you now and then. Did my research on several options and was impressed by the versatility, style, and affordability of the NC750x DCT. Within a year, I eventually found one that was available. It’s been almost a year, now, and I sneak a ride during lunch breaks and hit the road on not so busy weekends. Just over 1000 miles on her, so far… and still loving the experience! Not having to switch gears all the time (not that I minded before) allows me to be not just more mindful of the road but also take in the joy of riding much more! Like it or love it, to each his own. Either way, bikes rule!!
