I have created this video to help you install a Chinese Android Head Unit in your Honda Odyssey RB1.
I could not find anything similar on KZbin and thought others may appreciate it. An installation that should take hours, took me 3 days.
Hopefully armed with this info, you will be in the hours category :-)
I have posted copies of the wiring Diagrams at the following address.
www.pinterest.nz/garyr0096/ho...
Will update these as I complete new ones.
Please feel free to ask questions in the comments.

Hello Gary, Sorry about the delay, been hectic with work commitments. Good to know that Seicane is similar to the video build. I do hope the amp is ok as it saves on having to re-cable the speakers. I will checkout eBay for second hand amps. Sometimes an odyssey appears for breaking from time to time. I will check it out for moisture. Hopefully, it will be ok. Door rubbers looked ok when I was trying to trace the water in the boot. I made a point of checking all door rubbers at the same time. Thank you so much for planning another video, it will help out a lot and will very much appreciated by myself.

Thank you Garry for posting all this info, I have the exact same car and head unit and have been looking for help on the install, I had someone install it for me but they mucked it up as something they did is causing the battery to drain, so I plan to pull it all out and redo it all. It took me a long time to find a great vid and help files like this for the same model Honda. I hope I get it right.

You are very welcome. A couple of things worth checking before you tear it apart. Make sure your battery is not on the way out by giving it a test. If you dont have a battery tester it would be worth dropping into a battery shop and get them to do a test for you. The battery in my Honda has needed replacing for a while but as it keeps starting, I will just keep using it until it dies completely. The other thing to check is a setting in the Head unit. It allows you set the turn off time in the Head unit which is great if you are getting in and out of the car and dont want the Head unit booting up every time you turn off the key. I have set mine to 30 minutes which is about long enough to do a quick shop somewhere. If your battery is a bit suspect and the Head unit is set for a longer period of time it could be whats draining the battery. You will find the setting under Settings, Car Settings, Shutdown delay. See how that works for you.

@@garyrussell5559 Thank you, I just replaced the battery as it was my first suspect, however, it still seems to still be draining over 3 days with the car complete shutdown. When I pull the car fuse out it stops draining, so it's definitely in the radio circuit area somewhere. I must have a look at the settings of the head unit for that turn off time, thanks again, had a quick look at your diagrams on Pinterest. One question, that blue wire you connect to make the amp to get power, where does it connect to? With the steering control wires on the head unit, do you connect to Key1 wire?
@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 2 жыл бұрын
@@nzgad I am assuming the blue wire you are referring to is the Amp control wire. The head unit should have a wire labelled Amp that should be connected to the orange wire pin 7 of the 14 pin plug. This doesnt actually power the amp, it just signals the amp to turn on. If the person who wired it for you, wired it to a permanent power source, then your amp wont switch off and it could be your culprit for draining the power from your battery.

The pin outs on the head unit provided by the supplier on their advertising was also wrong. I dont think I have posted that as a link yet so will do it now. The Harness provided on mine did not actually connect to any ACC conection so the head unit wouldnt turn on. I forgot to show that in the video. The Harness was really only useful for the matching blue plug on the end. Good luck and let me know if you are having problems and I will try to help.

Hi Shane. Thank you. The model I installed is a 10 inch model so it should fit Ok. I did a second video Part 2 which covered a few things I forgot to mention and I covered of the options of installing a different head unit into the space. The amount of room is very limited so the head unit will need to be very shallow to fit. Follow my link to Pintrest in my video discription for my wiring diagrams that I used. These will really help for the pin outs of the Reversing camera and Honda Amp.

Hello Gary, Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. yes, I thought you must be in the electronics industry with your detailed explanation. When you say about potential moisture under the seat, I think you may be right with that one as there is a constant smell of fusty damp in the car. I discovered that the spare wheel well was filling up with water every time it rained so I am in the process of trying to get to the bottom of where it could be coming in at. If it is the amp that is defective due to the moisture build up in the car, would you suggest running new speaker wire directly to the wires that go into the amp or look for an alternative amp to replace the factory amp? If the amp has to be replaced where would I run the other power connector wires to? When you talk about the RCA out going to the blue 14 pin plug, could you please elaborate on that a little bit more as you are going to put another plug on it but where will that plug be going? In the RCA connectors and the Android unit? Do you know what gauge the original wiring is in case I have to bypass the amp? A part two video would be fantastic idea. I for one would seriously appreciate it as I have saved your first video as a very good guide in what is happening and how involved it is going to be when I tackle it. Great diagram breakdown of all the connectors. This is going to be a great help as well. The Seicane 9” head unit that I have has some similar cables that are shown in the video.
@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny. I also looked at the Seicane unit. I'm sure they are sharing quite a few of the same components. Hopefully your amp may be OK as they are mounted slightly above the carpet. May still have got a little bit of indirect moisture so it's worth taking it out and checking it over. Also check the plugs for moisture. Worth checking out a second hand amp if it looks dodgy. If it's a bit dear then go with wiring the speakers directly. This will work OK as well but will require you to run some cable either under the carpet or around the door sills. Check the rubbers around your doors as that may be where your waters coming in. They have little clips that can be pulled out if you catch them on something. I'm out of town for a few days so will look at another video next week.

@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Caitlin. Glad it was helpful. The Odyssey Amp under the seat doesnt have an output for a Sub. However the Chinese Head units do have an RCA output, which means you can wire into your Subs Amp directly from the Head unit. This will require quite a bit of extra wiring and some heavier cable for the Sub Amp and speakers. Not sure where you where you mount the Sub in the Wagon as it may prove to be a pain. You could go for one of those thin underseat Subs but I havent heard one of them myself, so couldnt comment on their performance.

Hi Ashleigh. Typed a reply to you a couple of hours ago and just realised I didn't push send. Now to remember what I typed...... There are 2 plugs on the Amp. One goes to the speakers and one goes back to the Nav unit. You can definitely leave out the amp if you want and connect directly to the speakers. The wires are not very heavy duty so you may want to replace them if going for a bigger Amp. Otherwise they are fine. You will see some circuit diagrams posted on Pintrest that show what pins the speakers wires are on. Front Left Pin 8 and 18 Front Right Pin 7 and 17 Rear Left Pin 6 and 16 Rear Right Pin 5 and 15 You should find they are Directly opposite each other in the plug. If you put a meter across the pins set to resistance you should find a resistance value about 4 to 8 Ohms. If unsure I can tell you how to trace them with your mobile phone and a headphone connection.

@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 Жыл бұрын
Hi Joel. Reverse Camera Video Signal is on connector B pin 4 Brown , Signal Ground is pin 5 Yellow and pin 13 white. You will need to provide power to the camera on pin 3 orange. This is easiest provided by wiring into your reverse lights at the rear of the car rather than finding it in your loom at the front of the car. Which is possible but I didnt do as I thought I was swapping the camera to one with LED lights. I didnt end up doing that as once I put 12 volts on the existing camera, the picture improved remarkably. If you put permanent power on this wire your LEDs will be lit all the time and your head unit will try and show your reversing camera. There is a connection on Connector A pin 16 Blue which says it is the Shift lever reverse gear signal. It would be worth putting a meter on that to see if it provides power for you. I suspect not as its probabably just a swithing wire but I cant remember testing it sorry. Let me know what you find as I will be interested to know. Anyone swapping cameras will be better served running a wire to the reversing light.

Hey. Videos have been super helpful getting my nav replaced in my rb2. Got a bit of a weird issue now though. Got my steering wheel controls working but when my dash lights kick in I lose my steering wheel buttons. Got any idea where I may have messed up?
@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 Жыл бұрын
Hi Tomaz. That sounds like a good one. A couple of things spring to mind. If you lookl at your dash lights in the dark without them being switched on, do they have a slight glow? Or do they flash when you hit the steering wheel buttons? Might be really hard to see unless its dark. If they do, I would start looking for a grounding problem. Make sure Pin 1 Black wire on the back of head unit has a good ground contact. Also check the ground on your Steering wheel control. Next I would look at your illumination control wire which is pin 10 which is right beside Key 2 Pin 11 on the back of the head unit. The illimination wire is supposed to dim your head unit when you switch on your lights. Could have a contact or crossover there. If there is ever a fault on any head unit, I always check the ground first though. Hope that gives you a starting point.

Hello Gary, Great explanation and breakdown and explanation of stereo replacement. I am in the UK and I have a 2005 RB1 Honda Odyssey Absolute and your video is exactly what I am looking to do on my car. What gauge wiring have you used to extend the wires? Where would be the best place to get the wiring from? I have bought a 9” Android head unit and a replacement housing similar to your by the look of it to incorporate the Android head unit without having to hack the original one up. What order do you recommend the best way to attack the conversion? Where is the best place to get the plugs from that you replaced? Can you still use the original stereo controls on the dashboard or do all those buttons become redundant? I am planning to keep the amp after what you said in the video as I too like the original speaker sound. Currently, my stereo constantly intermittently works and does not work and it can go for days like that then suddenly come back on while driving. By keeping the factory amp, do you think this problem will be eliminated as I think it is just isolated to the stereo but not sure it could be other parts of the stereo system. Where is the best place to get the aerial antenna adapter from? Are there any other issues I need to be aware of while doing this conversions that I could avoid? Sorry about all these questions. I did try and attach images of my new stereo harness but it would not attach here.

Hi Danny. Thanks for the feed back. The video was twice as long before I cut out a whole pile of stuff which might have answered your questions. I am an Electronics Technician by trade so I also assume other people know what Im talking about so I probably skimmed over a few things. Yes my head unit came with the whole surround attached. Quite easy to swap them over. Use 2 plastic tooIs to get the Air con knob off. Mine was stuck on quite hard. Its quite likely the problem with your current system is in the main unit rather than the amp as its quite a complicated beast and I have seen other posts with similar issues. I would check for moisture under the seat where the Amp is located just to be sure. Its held in by 4 screws and is easy to take out to visually check for any deteriation. As for the harness requirements, as long as you have a plug for the back of the Android head unit, that is all you need as you can get access to all the other wires directly. Mine did not have all the wires needed so I grabbed an ISO harness which is almost the same and removed the pins from that and inserted them into the current harness. I suggest you just cut the ISO plug apart as its quicker to get access to the pins and wires and not nearly so frustrating. In the video you can see a big brown rectangular plug attched to the Head Units main plug. I added this also from the ISO harness. I didnt need it, but its there if I want to use the speaker outputs directly from the head unit. Another reason I went for the RCA outs is that there is no obvious heat sink and driving speakers could make the unit get quite hot. No problem using the RCAs. Any Auto store will have access to a whole range of Harnesses and wires. You can normally also buy packs that contain all the different coloured wires about 2 Metres in length. The buttons on the Dashboard become redundant. They use a different type of control system from the Steering wheel controls. I would recommend getting a decent crimp tool. It will make your job a whole lot easier. I will pop a picture of what I use on Pintrest. The cheap tools are terrible and should be avoided. Perhaps I should do a part 2 for you :-)

You may not need the Antenna adaptor if your radio has a band expander installed, as it will have a plug on it already that you can utilise. In NZ the Japanese radios have a very limited bandwidth and the easy fix is a FM band expander. Mine had a FM modulator to give Aux access and a band expander wired into the antenna. No wonder I struggled to get a radio station :-)

Thank you for your informative video. For the top cover, I found it easy to take off by using the duct tape method; lay few layers of duct tape on top and craft it as a handlebar to pull on... the cover will come off easily in one pull without any scars. However, I am having trouble pulling the front plastic cover part off (the part with airduct and control knob); I tried using the string method but still unable to pull it off. Can you please explain how you pull that piece off without damaging the front plastic cover?

Hi sevenseasrin. Yes the cover is a beast to get off the first time. The clips seem to really hang on the first time you remove them. The cover has 5 clips on each side and 2 tabs below the temp control knob. The 2 tabs seem to be the key to getting it off. I found you need to get a couple of the plastic removal tools working in a couple of different areas. Once a couple of the clips give way the whole thing will pop off. The good news is the new plastic cover does not have as many tabs and you can remove it much easier. Im away for the day tomorrow but can post a video for you on Tuesday if that will help.

The Japanese versions come with a whole range of stuff that wont work outside of Japan which make the Nav units redundant. Mine had a Card reader and a toll booth transmitter, which explains why some have so many antenna connections. @garyrussell5559 8 ай бұрын
Hi Nooroa13. Sorry to hear you are having issues. First up.... Is any thing working at all? i.e. does the head unit boot up or any lights showing or is the screen completely blank? If nothing is working you will need to get out your multimeter and start doing some testing. The first thing I would check is if there is 12 volts on the plug that connects into the head unit. That is pin 9 of the black plug and will always be on regardless of the key position. By memory I think there is a fuse also located under that plug on the back of the head unit that's worth checking if you haven't already. You can disconnect the plug from the head unit for easy access with your test meter. Next check you get 12 volts on the ACC line of the same plug (Pin 2) when you turn the key on. Next, check the grounding of your head unit which is pin 1 of the same plug. It should be connected to the frame of the car. Needs to be a really good connection. This is often a cause of many intermittent faults. I cant tell you the number of times I have found that that there has been no ground connected at all. The head units will often still work as they can get a dodgy ground from somewhere else, often from the radio antenna. Let me know how you get on and then I will make another few suggestions.

Mr Russell is this the same for all these units sold on aliexpress? because i have contacted a dozen of sellers of different brands on aliexpress that advertise for the RB1 and they ask me for a photo of the rear of the unit (which is the same as yours and your diagrams) and all of them always say that their units are not compatible. so that means if i bought one of these i will have to to do the same as you isnt that right? too bad theres no an actual drop-in replacement ofc the other option is to just order the internavi unit from yahoo auctions japan. and keep the internavi for the music and the reverse camera.

Hi Elizabeth. You did well contacting the suppliers. That never even occured to me, as I thought the language barrier might be a little difficult. I just thought I would try one and see what happened 🙂The main problem I had, which made the job difficult was the lack of wiring diagrams. Once I had these the job was pretty straight forward and a good technician should be able to install one of these head units without much problem. The existing reversing camera will work with the head unit (Mine works better). But yes you are correct...They are certainly NOT a drop in replacement. I found 2 Band expanders installed in my car as NZ has different radio frequencies. Obviously the person who installed the second band expander didnt know what the first one was. No wonder I couldnt get a radio signal. I wanted Navigation, Radio, and Bluetooth so keeping the old Internavi was not an option for me as it doesnt work outside of Japan. With a new Head unit you will lose all the functionality of those control buttons in the centre of your dash as well but your steering wheel controls will work fine.

@@garyrussell5559 thank you for your promptly response, im my case the car came from Japan with some kind of aftermarket cable that provides a 3.5mm plug and USB power, so it was a matter to get one of these cheap bluetooth receivers to get the Bluetooth situation sorted out. i didnt care too much for navigation as your city is probably bigger than this entire country (curacao, dutch caribbean), and i dont use the radio that much,probably would if the tuner went over 900mhz heh. but now that the unit failed im at loss since the reverse camera is a must on a car this size. so thats why a replacement internavi unit is an option for me. BUT the android unit does have a lot of features that i find useful. so i think im gonna order one the two, a chinese head unit and a cheap internavi replacement from yahoo auctions. specially now that you mention the steering wheel controls can be made to work

Hi. Sorry a bit busy at the moment so been having trouble catching up on messages. Haven't had to swap out Odyssey speakers but have certainly done quite a few other cars. I've never had a blown speaker as such but had lots damaged by leaking doors or ripped speaker cones. If all your speakers have failed at the same time I would suspect your amp under the left hand side front seat. Check for dampness under the seat. You will also be able to get access to the plug which is wired to all the speakers and then meter out with an ohm meter each one of the speakers to see if they really are blown.

Hi Brendan. There is nothing in the Head unit part that could affect the central locking but there may be a common fuse that is blown on one of the power feeds. I'd go through with a multimeter and check them all. Not unusual to short something out while you are trying to work out your wiring.

Hi Gary I able to connect the acc and the android unit turned On. About the speaker, do you directly connect the RCA outputs from the android player into 14 pins connector? Does it mean that you cut out the other side of each RCA cable and joint it with the 14 pins connector?
@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bang Met. Yes that is correct. Run a standard RCA cable from the back of your new Android head unit down to the the location of the 14 pin plug and then just cut the ends of it and wire it directly to the wires on the 14 pin plug. Alternatively if you want to use the speaker outputs from your new head unit you can run a 8 wire cable from the speaker outputs to the amp location under the seat where you will be able to remove the amp and wire directly to the speakers. I did this initially but decided against it as there is no real heat sink on my version of the head unit and it is going to get very hot. Some other models have aluminum backs on them and wont suffer so badly. I took my head unit apart when I installed a wifi antenna on the head unit as the existing wifi connectivity was poor. That was when I checked out the heat dissipation and decided it wasnt good enough. With the sun shining directly on that area and the volume turned up, it is going to get very very hot, so I opted to just use the RCA outputs instead, which wont drive the head unit hard at all. Most heat will come from the android apps, like a phone.

Hello. I'm trying to do the same on a 2012 Elysion Prestige. There was nothing to find for, but the RB1 headunit looks from the back like the elysion headunit. The wiring colours are not the same, but the pin and plug locations. For what are the two wires from the monitor plug? Pin 8 and pin 24 you said? Wich pin goes to ground and the other goes on the radio to what? I'm using the honda amp and wired the 14pin plug on rca plugs to use the rca out from the android headunit. Is there any way, to use the original reverse cam? At least it needs 7.9 volts???
@garyrussell5559
@garyrussell5559 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ma Mu. The pin 8 and 24 referred to in the video are for the steering wheel controls. My head unit had a wire labelled SWC. Which is connected to pin 24 of the big green plug behind the Display and you need to ground pin 8 of the big green plug. These wires go directly to the steering wheel buttons. The equivalent on Head units are your Key 1 and Key 2 if not labelled SWC. You might need to try both Key 1 and Key 2 to see which one works for you if that is the case. Yes you can use the existing reversing camera. It will handle 12 volts ok. Im using the existing camera and its working much better on 12 volts. I wired it to the Reversing lights for power and to control when the head unit activates in reverse. You have to do this if you are changing out the camera and it has lights on it as the lights will run continuously.

Hey mate I’ve been having some troubles pulling out the internavi unit and was wondering if you had any tips for removing it. Basically I’ve got the dash off and have unscrewed the screws connected to the unit itself however there’s one that won’t come out because the washer hits the bracket. I’ve tried removing this bracket but that hasn’t been possible because one of the screws in it is impossible to remove. Any tips on getting it out?

Hi Nidowott. Mine came out so easy I cant even remember it, sorry 🙂 But I have had similar problems on other car stereos. I often wonder how they were even installed, they are so hard to get out. Sometimes there are screws or bolts that you cant see but you can feel them with your finger. If you use some blue tac or plasticine you can push it over the end of them to get an impression of what you are dealing with. Nothing worse than trying to remove a torx bolt with a philips head screwdriver. Feels the same with your finger but just wont undo. You will also be able to find the correct size spanner or socket from the impression as well. If you are doing away with the NAV unit, I would consider cutting the bracket if possible with a hacksaw blade. Once the Nav unit is out you will have room to work on the bracket or make something else to replace it. Watch the metal filings dont get into anything electronic.

Hi Gert. I'm sure I can help you but will need a bit more information to understand exactly what you have and what you are trying to achieve. If its a simple bluetooth adaptor you can get access to the RCA inputs on the back of your centre console between the seats. I used this for a long time myself. I had an old android phone set up as a music player plugged into it (which worked fine), but you could add a bluetooth receiver there and also use the cigarette lighter access to power it. @garyrussell5559 Жыл бұрын
Hi William Check out the wiring diagram I uploaded to Pintrest. I have marked on the Diagram "Audio Amp" and you can see each of the Speaker connections. If you want to check you have the correct plug and wires the easiest way is to use a tone source or a headphone output from an audio device and put it across the wires for the speakers. (With the Amp and Head unit Off) You will be able to identify the speakers really quickly this way. The audio source will play directly across the speaker. I use this method all the time when I dont have a wiring diagram. Doesnt help with the polarity but you can normally sort this out once you have worked out one speaker.

. @Simsgarage Right, I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but with regard to the negative -ve , that is actually your ground connection. The battery in your car has 2 terminals. One being the positive which is used to run most equipment and the negative terminal which will have a large grounding lead attached to the body of the car. So when you want access to the -ve you just wire directly to the frame of the car. The hondas have a lovely big grounding bolt beside the old nav unit. It looks like star connector with lots of black wires coming off it. Dont try to use any ground through the RCAs. As you found out this will work but eventually it does get to ground but you will have a lot of stray power going where its not supposed to. Hence the buzzing.

@@dakula1 Red RCA is used for the Right hand side. White or black on the left. Yellow normally indicates video but Ive see it used on the left RCA as well where video not involved. You will need to also include a Amplifier activation signal (12 volts onto pin 7 of the 14 pin plug) from what ever device you are using, (if not wiring in an Android unit like the video). The amp under the seat needs this signal to tell it to turn on. Hopefully what ever unit you are using has a "power to amp" wire labelled on it otherwise you will need to wire it to the ACC. Hi John. Sorry to hear that. You will just need to attack it logically and see if you can narrow it down. 1. Is anything else not working unrelated to the head unit. 2. Were you using anything when it stopped i.e. cigarette lighter air conditioning 3. Check all your fuses 4. Check fuse on head unit 5. Check for voltages at your head unit. Remember you have a permanent power connection and an ACC (accessories) which only comes on when the ignition is on. 6.Check you have a good earth to the frame of the car. 7. Check all your connectors that have been added to the head unit for bad connections especially if you used a cheap crimp tool. That should get you there.

When you say you are using the "Aux" this is an input not an output? You could connect a bluetooth receiver to this but not a transmitter.
