I raced against Mike Hailwood in the late 60's. Well, I didn't, but my motorcycle did. At 14, I was too young to have a license, so a good friend volunteered to race my Yamaha 90 against Hailwood and his 6 cylinder motorcycle at the newly opened drag strip in Gulfport, Ms. Hailwood's bike still had it's road race gearing, which left him slipping the clutch halfway down the track just to get it up to 2nd gear. Even w/ a 5 second spot he easily won the race. I'll never forget the sound of Hailwood's engine, it was a screamer.

I always remember seeing Mike coming out of a bend and give it full throttle, the awesome power pulled the swinging arm up so that it was a solid rear end and the back of the bike jumped sideways but he still kept it on full throttle. There will never be another Mike Hailwood!!! I always wondered if his Japanese bikes had the gear change on the left, great to see his had it on the right, the British side :-))

OK great bit of engineering. But priming the carbs are a motor to get it started? Remember mike hailwood was presented with this bike halfway through the season no time to get used to it just get on and race it And a bump start.
Trop cool!
