Quote from S2K Forum (I hope I'm not stepping on any toes by copying and pasting this here): My experience is from driving Pocono, Watkins Glen, Thunderbolt, Lightning, Pittrace, Summit Point, Mid-Ohio, Dominion, and VIR and holding lap records at almost all of those on Hoosiers. You don't need a baffle. The blacktrax is like any other baffle (really anti-slosh plate) except they start with a brand new pan and quality install which reduces the likelihood of broken welds. These motors are running 80psi+, these slosh plates slow the return of oil back to the pick up tube. Don't mess with a good design by Honda. Look closely at the bottom of the ban, there is a circular bump out for the pick up and the pick up is basically kissing the the bottom of pan. You will not oil starve an S2000 as long as you have the proper amount of oil. I've seen many blown motor with and without baffles and with stock and aftermarket pans, the problem is usually always running too low on oil. Honda knew what they were doing with the oiling system and it is best left alone. My statement is based on years of experience and actually monitoring oil pressure/temps while driving these cars at the limit on race tracks and not just regurgitated information that people have read from other people on the forums.

I know who wrote that and have seen it many times before. I guess it’s an endless debate. All I know is I’ve had zero issues since installing this and I have been consistently tracking the car

Wow so glad I watched this video. You may have saved me from screwing up my engine. The baffled pan I bought did not have the baffle angled to support the angle of the engine and the weld tabs do not exist on mine. So mines trash. Ah well, you learn and move on.

Is there any benefit to this modification for a street car- one that's used primarily for canyon drives? I recently increased my cornering capabilities by going square, 17x9 on 255 re71r, and Ohlins. I realized that my cornering speeds are higher and sustained for longer periods of time.

ayowser01 for street driving it couldn't hurt but probably isn't needed. If your driving fast enough on the street to the point your worried about oil starvation, you should probably reevaluate and start taking it to the track

@@NAUS2K that's where I plan on relearning the car's new limits 🙂. My guess is that unless you do autoX or have a track with a many embankments, then an oil pan isn't likely necessary, but it's good insurance.

Does your ap1 burn oil?

jchi778 yes, it's mainly just from PCV blowby though

This is an absolutely unnecessary and potentially harmful modification. This baffle will restrict oil flow back to the pump fast enough. Also, the factory sump is so low it is literally kissing the bottom of the pan. A good test for you to see is to fill your pan with water and see how much is already over the baffle. It's only about 2.5qts before it is above the top of the pan. The factory oil system is very good in these cars and does not need to be messed with. Keep it topped off every session and you will be fine. Furthermore, these plates are known to crack at the weld due to the harmonic vibrations from our engines. I would remove this asap. I am speaking from a decade plus experience in tracking these cars. My race car did 21 days alone this year on the track with the factory oil setup plus and oil cooler.

Thank you for this I was concerned that I need one as I drive my car hard but I always make sure the oil is topped up after a big run normally only needs 100-200ml every now and again nothing crazy
