Hey man thanks! Unfortunately, I had to sell that bike so I could pay some bills and help finance my move to Washington. So I wasn't able to do a video on the work done or getting the engine back in. If you've got questions on it though let me know... I've had the engine out a few times on the same bike for various other reasons. Bike had 78,000 miles on it when I sold it and ran beautifully.

Looking 4 my first bike honda 1100 are the honda vtx1300 what would be easier to maintain never worked on a motorcycle before so looking for some good information are the valves adjustments are tippets hard to do for a first timer? Those are my concerns and worries!
@jameswheeler61373 жыл бұрын
I need advice. 03 shadow vt1100 with a recent top overhaul would not run. I bought it and took it apart and found all things looked exceptionally good rings, cylinders, valve work. I found too many shims under the hyd lash adjusters. I removed shims to obtain at least .047 movement of the assist pins. Motor runs great but a little too much valve lash noise. My question if I remove the rocker housing (only) and add about .020 shims will the head gaskets with 200 miles need to be replaced??
@MotoMedic3 жыл бұрын
Doubtful you'd have any issues with that new of a head gasket. If you have the means to replace, it can't hurt, but I don't see it having a problem. Just make sure everything is clean and spot on again when you reassemble.

thank you so much for the video, my honda shadow sabre 2004 is mixing coolant with oil and vice versa, where do you buy your head gaskets at?
@MotoMedic4 жыл бұрын
I always start with OEM parts if they're available. Dealership, Parts supplier, or online. If they don't make a specific part anymore, grab the part number and paste it into ebay and see what you get. I've been able to find just about everything I've ever needed on Ebay as a last resort.

I'm looking for some general knowledge on replacing exhaust header bolt studs
@MotoMedic4 жыл бұрын
Are they stripped? Or are the frozen in the block and you're trying to remove them?
@sleezymechanic4 жыл бұрын
@@MotoMedic previous owner put forward controls on and had to modify the exhaust. He didn't have the proper hardware and didnt have gaskets on it either. So the holes are mucked but not bad enough to helicoil. Anyways I re threaded them and they look pretty good. As far as the new studs do I thread it into the stud shoulder with some loctite then torque them?

Can the cylinder heads be removed while engine is still in the frame?
@MotoMedic2 жыл бұрын
No... The frame gets in the way and doesn't have enough room to get the heads off of the threaded rods. Unfortunately you have to drop this one to get even the valve covers off almost.

Does anyone know the part number for the cam plugs for these engines? I need to replace mine because they leak and I literally can't find them anywhere online.
@MotoMedic2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you're referring to as far as "cam plugs" but try starting here. If the bike is a 1999 like mine was this is the place to find the parts. ... or at least part numbers, if they've been discontinued. But in many cases they aren't.... and if they are at least you'll have a part number to search on Ebay where it's likely you'll find what you need. www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1999/vt1100c3-ac-shadow-aero
@DaroffApFire2 жыл бұрын
@@MotoMedic So on these engines the cams come out of the side of the head and there's little plugs with o-rings that seal off the ends of them. They're notorious for leaking and I need to buy new ones to replace. And yes this link is exactly what I needed. It's the cam plugs for the cylinder head. Thanks!
@kabylia80404 жыл бұрын
Are the shims are all same thickness? How many shims for each tappets?
@MotoMedic4 жыл бұрын
There are different thicknesses. Always keep the shims that came out of each lifter recess with that lifter. If just taking the head off they'll go back where they were. If doing a completely new top end I'd recommend checking the manual on how to get them adjusted right. It can be a total pain in the rectum.

Hi , need some help . I have honda shadow vt1100 85-86 , it makes a noise , something like ticking noise , i can hear it to the head cover , can somebody tell me what can i do ?
@MotoMedic4 жыл бұрын
It could be many things. Valves, cam chain tensioner, or any number of things. 1100?if it's never had the valves inspected that could be a place to start. The 1100 also has been known to tick if there's too much or not enough oil. Too much oil causes bubbles which get under the lifters. But.... Without actually hearing the bike run I have no idea where you should start. My advice is to bring it to someone and have it looked at.
