Bridgestone Battlax BT-023GT is what I have settled on. I have tried Metzelers, Dunlops and Continentals. Continentals don't last very long at all. I paid £183 (approx. $US230) in Jan 2022 for both tyres, delivered. I paid labour for fitting at the local garage. I get over 10K miles from them. Tyres squaring off, particularly the rear tyre, is the biggest problem because my commute is mostly on the motorway.

I found putting Ultraseal in my Michelins on my pan gave me an extra 1,000-1500k on my pan. It’s a heavy bike and the extra heat dissipation at motorway speeds really helps.

Examining that front tire on your ST1300 your overlooking the "cupping" in the tread wear. Cupping is typically due to wrong tire pressure and/or suspension settings. Point being measure tread depth from lowest point of the cupping wear.

Had the same tires for over 2 yrs and 11,400 miles the most mileage I ever got out of tires ! I’m going to try the Shinko tires on my 05 ST 1300

I've owned my ST1300 for almost 14 years and the last 3 sets of tyres have been Michelin Pilot Road 3 and later the 4's. The factory Dunlops had to be changed out at 12,000km. I got 28,000 km out of my last set of 4's. I've learned to run the tyre pressure higher than the recommended 42psi. I am religious about checking them before riding. I run 45psi front and rear. I only ride for pleasure so do not commute on mine so a good mix of highway and mountain roads is what I do. I'm in Australia so maybe road surfaces in different countries also play a roll in such varied mileage from tyres. My next set will be the Pilot Road 5's.

I'm on mt second set of Michelins Power Road 3s. the old Michelins still had treat left. I highly recommend the Michelins. Fork over the money. safety has no price. Your life is priceless.

+chris4240 Nothing to do with safety. Shinkos are every bit as safe as any other brand.

I'm currently using Dunlop Roadsmart 2s, but had PR3s and 021 and 020s before that. The Michelins lasted the longest but wore the weirdest. Angel GTs are going on next. All were similar with wear and stability differences but I found the Dunlops the most neutral.

Hi I'm not far from you just up in Vernon BC and ride all the roads you do too. I'm currently running a set of PR4 GT on my st1300 and have about 9000 kms on the rear and 19000 on the front. The first PR4 GT rear only got about 10000 kms to the wear bars - less kms than PR3 did. Although a little quieter then the PR3 I find these a little more effort to turn in after they wear a bit, and tend to really be affected by surface rutting or any irregularities at all. This makes them feel uneasy and wierd in the rain. Back to PR3 or even BT020's for me......

Roadsmart GTS or what I have on my ST1300 great so far I have over 12,000 miles and I'm two trips to and from North Carolina to Arizona. And as far as the crossed it's just part of the Peace of mind. You pay for what you get. When you pay for cheap tires cheap tires or what you get

I will probably need to replace the tires on my ST1300 next year so I will be very interested in your experience with the Shinkos.

Try the Dunlop sportmax roadsmart II. I've had them on for 15K miles. Think they could go another 5K miles. That is about 30K kilometers

Good to know. I guess I am somewhat biased against Dunlops because the original tires were Dunlop D220s which I thought were really, really terrible tires. But I know Dunlop is a good brand and its worth taking a look. Thanks.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience with the shrinkos. I have been looking at the Michelin commander 2s which are supposed to give 12k miles. For my Vstar 1300 which is a bit tough on rear tires . I got 6800 on my stock bridgestones, and they are finished .. Accorinding to my gauge they are at 0. Currently bike is parked till I make a tire conclusion..

+dbest1a Vlogs I had a couple of rides on the Shinkos before my insurance ran out for the season. First impression was that handling was slightly sharper then the Michelins (Road Pilot 4) but with a harsher ride. I'll keep you posted :)

+OccasionallyEvil good to know . Will be looking forward to hearing your thoughts.. With our size bikes tires that last long are hard to come by, and the tire many guys know it .. I would hate to change tires every dang season .

+OccasionallyEvil also have you tried balance beads, or even aero soft beads to keep the wheels balanced. I've been running them on my buell, and they are a huge help.

Why is the front Michelin 'cupped' like that?
@JohnGilmour6 жыл бұрын
Your millage (Km's) seems quite low. I usually get 20,000 kms out of the rear and more life on the front running the BT020's Same bike. I like heavy cornering. I honestly don't notice any different from the day I install them to the day I take them off; rain or shine.
@OccasionallyEvil6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've heard people getting extraordinary mileage like you. Weird. My BT020's would be un-rideable after 8500km, front especially would wander all over the place. It's the only tire I had where the front would wear as fast as the rear. I usually ride between 120-160 kph. Only thing I could think of that would increase wear. Well, good for you a lot easier on your wallet.

How about Shinko Ravens for the rear tire? I'm thinking about using these on my ST1300. Currently have Bridgestone Exedra Max.
@OccasionallyEvil5 жыл бұрын
I had a Honda service guy once tell me that the Ravens did not have enough sidewall strength to carry the weight of the ST1300. Might have been B.S. but it always stuck in my mind. I know they don't make the 18" front tire available in the Raven. So you couldn't match them to the rear, although they do make the "weird" 170/17 rear that the ST1300 takes. I've been satisfied with the "Verge" the last couple years so I think I'll stick to them.

I just watched the following, one of the comments mention getting 15,000 - 20,000 MILES out of the set of B020s on a K1200LT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXLSYXmXpbOWbKs That sounds unbelievable considering you're only getting 8,500kms.
