That's not the way to check the oil level on a xr400r dry sump engine.... fill the frame with what stated in the workshop manual, take bike for a ride for 10 to 15 mins, stop engine make sure bike is vertical,unscew cap/dipstick and wipe clean, then check the oil level within a few seconds of engine being shut off... This is the only way to check oil level on any dry sump 4 stroke engine.. if youleave it too long the oil will run back in to the engine and will give you a low incorrect oil level and you will end up putting to much oil in the engine
