Great video - you're by far the most informative of the pilots I follow and the commentary is really appreciated. It's really interesting to hear about the procedures, decision-making processes and insights into what it's like to be a pilot and how to fly these complex aircraft. The helicopter was "interesting" and I loved it when the controller said "TCAS doesn't help me". He sounded like a favourite but slightly grumpy teacher at school...
@HondaJetTV8 ай бұрын
Hey, this is Jonathan. I appreciate your kind remarks! Trust me when I tell you that my colleagues who created the idea for, and edited, this video are genius. That controller at KAUS taught me something about visual approaches--TCAS doesn’t have eyes, I do, LOL! Lesson learned.

This is Jonathan, thanks for the comment! Funny you should say that, because aviation is not my first career. To make a long story short, I left higher education 18 years ago to pursue this full time. I am incredibly blessed to work at Honda Aircraft Co. Life is not perfect, but the good outweighs the bad. The people with whom I work are top-notch, and there is literally nothing else I would rather do.

@HondaJetTV8 ай бұрын
Hi, Jonathan here! I appreciate your comment, because you just taught me something. After I looked up “shisa kanko” I understood completely. Pointing out important observations inside and outside the aircraft in all phases of flight helps me to focus and maintain situational awareness. Almost any single pilot or crew will have callouts in their standard operating procedures to do the same. And the fact that your term is Japanese is quite appropriate!

Please forgive my ignorance, since I am as green to personal aviation as it gets, but I wonder the reason for the jagged, serrated prints(?) at the bottom of the windshield panels. There must be a strong technical reason, I suppose, because they are aesthetically difficult to see. Just wondering what they are for...

What’s the advantage of using the Honda Test 53 call sign over the N number?
@HondaJetTV8 ай бұрын
Many pilots at different aircraft manufacturing companies use test call signs to differentiate themselves with Air Traffic Control (ATC). The company and ATC come to an agreement that anyone using their special designation is on official company business, frequently for test purposes and may need some flexibility (for headings, altitudes, etc.) on that particular flight. Companies can also easily track their aircraft as they fly their missions.

You can be a pilot as long as you pass your medicals/physicals. I remember it made the news when Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands gave up his flying license at a rather advanced age before it was revoked for medical/physical reasons (he most likely wouldn't have passed the next check and he knew it).
