An interview with the talented sign-makers at Toronto's famous discount store, Honest Ed's. Video produced by the Koffler Centre of the Arts, in association with the exhibition "Historic Summer Special", June 21 to November 11, 2012, highlighting unique historic signs and records from the amazing archive of the store, celebrating its long tradition of craftsmanship. This is the coolest. I remember when I first came to Portland Oregon there were about 50 sign shop. They quickly disappeared a few years later as the digital revolution cam along. I use to do showcards and paper signs and banners all the time. I am thinking of maybe doing it again. Maybe an online paper sign business might work too. But actually I am pretty busy painting custom splashes. That's something that cannot be replaced. I noticed a resurgence of the "hand painted". It's great and making a comeback. Viny will always be here I 'spose, but so will hand lettered as it is growing in popularity.
