If you get a chance to play it in VR, it's the difference between an alright 6/10 and a mind-boggling 9/10. There's nothing cooler than looking over your shoulder seeing your wing shot off and then facing forward to see your blaster fire connect and destroy the guy you've been chasing all match!!

I’ve been wanting a VR set for a bit now, and this game and Half-Life Alyx just make me want one more.

@@blaster915 I've played it in VR and for some reason, it made feel nauseous really fast. I have played tons of Elite Dangerous in VR and have never had that feeling. I don't know what it was about it but I couldn't play more than about 45 mins before I had to get off. I've never had that problem in any other game other than Dirt 4 and that was only when I would hit the banks (so quite often).

A lot more objects are in your field of view. Rarely do you find yourself fighter in an asteroid. You develop a bit of sensory overload and nausea due to your brain tracking more objects. Play a couple of rounds of CQB in elite it will serve as warm up

Yeah it sounds like the guy who made this vid must suck ass at this game and was really salty. The story's really bad, but the game itself is phenomenal. I got it recently after a friend pestered me to - this is my first time playing a shooter style game since Halo Reach came out, I've never been a big fan of shooters and all that. But hot damn this game is phenomenal, and I don't even have a VR headset or joysticks or anything, just a controller and headset.

The energy management system of the X-Wing games made me think "Oh, this is what R2 units do. All that 'More power to the forward shields' stuff makes PERFECT sense now." That is kind of a mild miracle of game mechanics design perfectly connected to a tie in license and its inner workings. It ENCHANCES the rapid fire technobabble dialog of the films, and highlights how well thought out the Star Wars universe was in the first place. Was well thought out. Was.

Yeah...writers aren't flight sim nerds are they. See, I grew up playing (and failing at) TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance, so I love this game. Honestly control disparity isn't really a thing (unless you're using M+K for some weird reason). VR players get no advantage in 3/4 Imperial ships due to the TIE's cockpit. This game is really about skill and the right set up. Like, my squad is great at Dogfights. But in ranked fleet battle, we've yet to find a way to counter the meta and we get destroyed. Working on it, but this game needs a bigger player base which it's....not getting. It's a niche game with little content with no plans to add more, but its controls are tight and everything feels *good*. The devs were clearly passionate, and this Honest Trailer doesn't give them enough credit. The writers are totally right about the campaign, though. The X-Wing games had you actually participate in the Death Star battles, and this....doesn't do much at all. All the effort went into mechanics, really. For what it's worth, I already had a usb flightstick. Same one I used as a kid and it works great. Made a similar control scheme to XWA to help w/ familiarity.

It feels weird being one of the flight sim nerds but on xbox. I don't have a HOTAS or HOSAS and i can't get VR. I'm using a not so new TV so my latency is killing me. Me and some other flight sim nerd buddy's of mine would stomp people in battlefront two star fighter assault but it got so boring crushing people and made us feel like dicks. After about two months all we could do to entertain ourselves was to compete for the highest kill streak. The record was in the 80's but we later changed our record keeping rules so that it would only count if you were playing with a full squad of members. Now with squadrons we are loving life. Every game its either flight sim noobs or PC people who have sunk thousands into their set ups. Only a few of us are even slightly competitive so we all refuse to farm AI and if we encounter newer players do our best to not deter them from improving. Flight sims are a genre of game that anyone can get good at its just a matter of time and effort. I have high hopes for this game and I hope this brings more people into the genre and that me and my friends can still play this with a sizeable player base years from now. PS: if anyone wants to become really good at flight sims you can certainly do it. Like I said its just a matter of time and effort. However to make it easier on yourself try and find a group of people to play with and latch onto the thighs of veteran players. Even if they don't give you any tips by being around them allows you to see what is possible with enough time and effort it also gives you an object to surpass and by having a group of players around your level you can all share what you've learned and your own tips and tricks.

I ended up getting a refund for Squadrons, and then turned around and bought the ancient TIE fighter 90's game for the memories. Squadrons just felt like a long tutorial (as the vid said) and the battles didnt feel big or important. In TIE fighter you felt like you were a part of a bigger world, even if some of the missions were just like, "All you have to do is go on a patrol". Then all hell breaks loose, every time. Geeze they knew how to make games in 1994.
