Instead of a mudroom, you could build a 3 season-closed porch. Just think, more storage, more wood available on the porch, kick snow off shoes on the porch, and with a door on the porch, no wind blowing into your house when you open the door.

If I could choose a family to live with for any reason, it would be you two, I love your setup and how much thought y’all have put into little pleasures that keeps us sane when off-grid living but minimalistic and budget friendly so you’re able to go explore and enjoy the outdoor adventures ❤. I love everything about your quaint little home. Congratulations on your forever 40acres, home, outbuildings and great acreage for your beautiful gardens to come, I can’t wait to see your transformation of your new place and new adventures y’all will share about the Alaska outdoors ❤🙏👏🥰. Be well and safe and much love to you two and to your fur babies, chickens and bees! Oh what fun 🎉

I don't know if you use this already, but you can spread a little bit of wood ash on top of the snow in the garden, to make it melt faster in the spring. As you have propably pretty acid soil as well, with bog and that kind of forest, it will raise the garden PH as well. This is one of those old wives advices (at least my granny used it and propably generations before her) and it really works. You don't need a lot of ash on top of the snow, to make it a little dirty and accelerate its melting speed a lot. The pure white snow reflects the spring sun heat away, while the dirty snow catches the heat and melts so fast.

When cleaning the glass on your wood stove, you can get a wet paper towel or cloth and dip it into the ashes from your fires and clean the glass with the ashes. Then get a clean paper towel or cloth and polish the glass. It cleans the glass really good and saves money. Loved this video.

Have you thought about cutting a 3” hole in the corner of the floor near your inverter , putting pvc pipe there and run that into your insulated battery box? Then put a small 12v fan inside the pipe to pull warm air into the battery box. Use a thermostat inside the box that makes it cut off when it gets to 40 degrees F. That would likely make your batteries perform better and won’t take much energy.

381 videos! You'll be at 400 in no time! I peeked back at some of your old videos. My! How things have changed! Upgraded cabin, well and water system that works for you, solar power and battery bank, no more mud! (more or less), outbuildings and storage galore plus a beautiful chicken coup, an amazing garden, high tunnel and orchard. Plus you now have Bandit's ponds in the bog thanks to his digging and waterworks that has been successful enough to draw the gorgeous cranes and other wildlife. And bees! What once was a messy lot with a not quite finished plain little cabin is now a beautiful and productive homestead. 🙂

Suggestion for your orchard. Since your trees are dwarf varieties, consider making a structure with an A frame roof, with removable covering. Tarps maybe. Something that would allow snow to slide off maybe or would, at least be reachable for removal. When snow season is over remove and store the cover and leave the supports. Just a thought with a lot of maybees from a Mid Atlantic snow hater. 😂😊

My uncle started sleeping in a hammock while camping and at hunting camp. He even bought a full body insulated body suit he slept in inside his down sleeping bag. 😆 At home he couldn't sleep lying down and got a nice recliner and slept in that. I was waking up with back pain and memory foam mattresses make me sweat like crazy. I read a Japanese Shikibuton was good for backs, especially if you're a side or stomach sleeper. I bought one five years ago and got a two inch bamboo topper and both my husband and I sleep so good. No more back pain when I wake up and no more waking up on 🔥 fire memory foam!

I mean! Can I just say how proud I am of you! 4 years. Dude (was going to say a different word) you guys are making it look easy, yet I know it isn't. You inspire me in my Nor Cal on grid life to do more/be more/love the world more. I'm a proud follower and you are the best thing on youtube. :)

Thank you for the tour! I can't wait to see what you do on the new property with your increased knowledge and experience. I'm anticipating a much more purposeful build since you now know what works and what doesn't, in terms of placement of buildings, gardens, etc.

You did a great job of condensing your life in Alaska. I have enjoyed all you videos some three times. I love to see you both work and play.
