The thing about growl is that was so popular in 2013, it was a real hit, with xoxo (growl album) exo sold more than 1M copies being the first time in more than 20 years for kpop. Also exo won so many daesangs thanks to growl. And last with this achievement exo started the 3rd generation of kpop

Number 1 fact is misleading. The industry was fine. What they did with Growl was REVIVING *physical album sales* which was previously declining bcus of digital era. They're the first group to sell more than 1M+ sales after 19 years in korean music industry. When u listed "facts" & achievements like this, make sure to get the context & wording properly bcus it's very important to do so if u wanna inform non fans.

@@simageneration4030 I never denied that? Read properly & try to understand the context better. The op said the album "save" the industry from "20 years drought". In actuality, there's no drought aside of physical sales & the industry was still doing REALLY great with it. It's the golden era of kpop afterall & the start of its expansion outside of Korea to the whole Asia. So it's a misleading statement bcus it doesn't exactly save the industry. It just propels them to be even more succesful by venturing into physical sales again. It's an amazing achievement nonetheless but the phrasing is inaccurate. & EXO didn't make it worldwide either. It's a collective achievement from the journeys of multiple kpop groups.

P.S.-Lots of 3rd Gen groups have covered Growl, and many 4th Gen dread it because of the vocals and one-take value. And yeah, it's not like the vocals are crazy. Back then they definitely sounded great but their songs weren't vocal-display oriented (which is why even if Wolf has some powerful vocal moments, they only made it prominent during the live remix). And that's the thing about EXO: you can totally see them growing before your eyes. They were good at first, but the fact that all of them keep taking lessons and working on acquiring new musical skills (when they had had this hit song back in '13 and they could have become a one-hit wonder) says a lot about them being artists, not just idols.

The wolf thing both is and is not a reference. Like, obviously it calls back to Wolf being previous comeback and the song being about a wolf (exo) and a "beauty". But also, in Korean when you talk about people you often have animal references, like cunning girls being "fox-like", stupid strong people being bears and young men who are, well, after women are often talked about as wolves. So EXO is also saying that other men lusting after her are just predators after a piece of meat.
