Hi I'm Korean NEVERLAND and I'd like to tell foreign fans about important thing. HANN(一[Alone]), HANN(寒[Alone in Winter]), and HWAA(火花[Fire, Flower]) / It's a story line that goes in the order of the songs. To summarize the meaning of the lyrics, HANN(一[Alone]) : You turned me around with cold eyes as I'm a stranger... I can't help but stand in a blankly... I saw you who I didn;t know until now... All I can do is just smirk... I don't know you anymore... Yeah, I'll forget you... HANN(寒[Alone in Winter]) : The promise I was going to erase you was lie... Every word I said I'll forget you was lie... There's never been a day I didn't think of you... But You show your back to me as if you believed my words... HWAA(火花[Fire, Flower]) : To dry all my tears, make a fire. To restore my lost spring, to melt all my heart covered with cold snow, make a fire. I'll burn everything about you I have. Even put lingering affection in my arms and burn me. And I'll bloom me again. [HANN(一[Alone]) is based on the lyric poem 'Kim So-wol''s 'Azalea Flower'] When you're leaving, because you're disgusting to see me I will send you without a word Azalea Flowers in Yeongbyeon's Yak-Mountain, pick a bunch and I'll spray it on your way out Every step of the way The flower that lay, step on it gently and go away When you're leaving because you're disgusting to see me I will never shed tears even if I die This poem is very famous in Korea for its lyric poetry. I think this poem can sum up the HAN of Korean people. The emotion HAN, I'm talking about right now is the meaning of the title of IDLE's song. If you want to know about HAN, Here's the link : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_(cultural) Uniquely, the female speaker of the poem does not want to part with him, but she tells a lie. It's an ironic expression. And this expression comes from HANN(一[Alone]). This is why the lyrics of 'Everything I said was a lie' come out in HANN(寒[Alone in Winter]). In this album, not only the title song but also all the songs sang well about HAN. The lyrics of all the songs are very Korean and use old words, so the atmosphere is basically sad. If foreign fans knew Korean, they would have been much more emotionally shaken, but it is too sad that there is a difference in language. But I wanted to tell you as much as possible what the foreign fans didn't know, and I think the purpose was well conveyed. I hope you continue to pay attention to our (G)I-DLE's moves!

I’m an international fan of (G)I-DLE and also a BTS fan (ARMY). I have heard of the word “Han” before when ARMY discussed about what makes BTS’s music special in Korean people’s perspective. Is there any group other than BTS and (G)I-DLE who express “Han” well in their songs? If not, then (G)I-DLE is a very special and unique group. I wish they will become very successful in the future, in Korea and internationally. For me, (G)I-DLE is the most talented and creative girl group.

It is very much a song about breakup. In Hann (Alone), they promised they would erase the ex from their memory. In Hann (Winter), they realise that was them lying to themselves, that they still think of the ex way more than they would like to. The winter is the metaphor for the heart, where it is now so cold without the love. The spring they hope for here (and more so in the sequel song, Hwaa) represents the time when their heart can blossom again, feel the warmth of a new love. The titles are all wordplay. "han" can mean a lot of things, among others "resentment" (which they feel towards the ex), "one" (written 一 in hanja), and "cold" (written 寒 in hanja). You might have seen these in the Korean titles of the two Hann songs. "hwa" means "fire" (火) and "flower" (花), among other meanings; and also "disaster" (禍), which someone said is represented by the winter theme, as the album comes out in fire, flower and winter version. fire is also used metaphorically for "rage" or "anger".

I'll never forgive pop music for this. This album, even the last one, I Trust as well, to a lesser extent, is the bonafide example of a concept album. I grew up on heavy metal, I usually listen to music not in songs, but in albums. This is what I love. 아이들 are definitely album artists, they're not chasing trends, not making songs to make them viral on fricking tik-tok with 1-minute soundbites. Dumdi-dumdi would disagree I guess, but summer (and christmas) songs are exempt from this rule for me. The last album was all about trusting oneself, self-respect, self-reliance, the "she" in the chorus of Oh My God, was the girls themselves. This one is about breakup. The fact that it connects to a song released earlier is just Soyeon's genius and crazyness, nobody really expects or appreciates pop artists doing this kind of stuff, cause that's not how you top the charts. A band called Dream Theater have songs connected to a "Twelve-Step Suite" over 5 different albums. They're not going for topping billboard, yet they're some of the most respected musicians in the metal world for the past almost 30 years of their career. In 아이들's case, that's where Soyeon's, Minnie's and Yuqi's songwriting chops will come in. There is not a single GG in the Kpop scene with such a powerhouse group of writers and it will set them apart, it already has. Anyway, this album from beginning to end could be a soundtrack to a movie, it's so focused, so meticulously crafted around a singular concept, a singular idea that it becomes _more than the sum of its parts_. I can't emphasize this more. Having studied Korean for 6 years by now also helps with understanding the underlying themes, but that is why I try to encourage everyone to dive deep into these songs. For me, this mini-album is a 20 minute song that I never interrupt. I often listen to songs that are _actually_ that long, so it's fine for me. I just hate the idea of B-sides, and the way the K-pop industry AND the fans have so readily embraced that culture. Why base the value of songs on the number or identity of their producers or the promotion they get, instead of their own merits as a damn song?! The entire industry is living on selling albums for a title track, maybe 2 songs, if another gets some promotion. I hope someday people's views might change, but that's not where music is going anyway, streaming services don't help albums gain traction, they help individual songs. All the while, this group sets an example for everyone in the way they consciously make music. They captured lightning in a bottle, this is what everyone means when they talk about how "different" their music is, how they are "their own genre". The entire western pop music scene has been under the control of a handful of producers selling all-too-similar songs to the most famous singers and now everyone hates pop music for sounding all the same, while they are the ones who stream frickin' Drake every day 24/7. I feel originality here, I feel bravery, they are not afraid to give a very stripped-down instrumental to a song, they're not afraid to abruptly end Hwa when everyone expects another repetition of the chorus. When other groups chase western trends, they come along with a concept that combines Korean, Japanese and Chinese culture lyrically, visually, sonically to a T. They are just THAT good. Sorry for the rant. Love and peace. SUPPORT 아이들!

As a fan of G-Idle, I was impressed and grateful for your serious evaluation of the song, and the title song's important lyrics, 'HWAA', is a double expression. it's old term, meaning fire and flowers. 'Han' can be seen as an old term for 'cold' and is also a word that expresses the emotion of ' resentment, lingering'. It was quite surprised for me that You know the songs were linked. Soyeon said to listen to "Hann" (2 years ago), listen to the new song "Hann" and listen to "Hwaa" in order. Thk u!

Since there definitely isn't enough love for Ahn Ye Eun here, here some information. She Co-wrote this song and it has a huge stamp of hers (read a comment which said "An Ahn Ye Eun-song sung by G-Idle, which is pretty accurate). She's from the Indie corner, writes everything she sings and has a..veeery unique tone and style. You can recognise her voice out of thousands. Maybe you want to check her out? She's insanely talented, although her songs might not be something for everyone. Try "Kakotopia" her title track from the 2020 Album. It's really good and suits her voice so well. "Waltz" from last December is something pretty normal for her."Trumpet Creeper" is a bit weird (the 19+ rating says it all). Thank you, I don't know if you'll read this. ^^

I think the sound at the beginning 2:02 is meant to imitate some type of traditional Asian music instrument, such as Guqin, that doesn't have an equivalent in the West. I used to learn Guqin which is a seven-string Chinese musical instrument. Maybe there are similar sounding instruments in Korea too. Instruments like Guqin make a unique type of sound that's very soothing and meditative. Very anti-stress and anti-anxiety in my opinion lol You can check out some Quqin performances on youtube if you're interested:)
