Truuue people get thrown off when a song doesn’t end with a third boring identical chorus. The bold choices in Senorita are what people hate but it’s also what makes the song so cool in my opinion. Yuqi’s outro, the brass heavy post chorus, the men’s voices in the post chorus, Soyeon’s bizarre rap haha. It’s all a little upgrade from Latata & Hann in my opinion.

Yes that yufufu is totally random but they made it work. The guy's voice is actually from someone who speaks spanish fluently. Nowww with the chorus, ACTUALLY theyy performed it with an actual band and it was so good.

Senorita's story is like an abrupt love at first sight / infatuation type (maybe one night stand as well). And with this type of relationship, it could be sweet but dangerous, just like the razor inside that lollipop. Soyeon knows it was inside but still she tasted that short-lived sweetness. And the danger around them also symbolizes this type of relationship. For me, knowing (and watched the behinds) how Soyeon created their music with a concept and story, I really liked it and made me connects to the story more, and understood why did she made these type of choices, whether the audience love it or not. I actually liked it the first time hearing it, especially those brass instrumentals. This song was liked by foreign audiences but not so much in Korea due to some factors like: 1. Song structure not following the normal (v1, pre-chorus, chorus, v2, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, last chorus). It was actually giving us the anticipation if "is this the chorus?" and "oh I thought they're gonna go back to the ____". 2. CGI. There are a lot of CGIs used here that were kinda obvious and korean listeners don't like it that much. 3. Like you said, product placement! KAJA which was their main sponsor for this had a lot of "in your face" adverts that they didn't liked. The girls said it was to "Stay beautiful in the middle of chaos." 4. Lot of repeating verses like "woah oh oh" and "you foo foo". I understand that it may lose the pace of the song, but then again, this is a story of a unstable relationship built upon sudden infatuation, thus the composition relates to it being rollercoaster. 5. Off-beat and, as you say, kinda trippy rap by Soyeon. In Korea, they always follows a standard, and since off-beat rap isn't a thing, they criticized this part, as well as the visuals cutting from center to far sides. BUT, if we focused on the lyrics, Soyeon was literally saying, "Just focus on me, are other people important?" saying to us that don't mind the chaos, the beat, the visuals, and just focused on her which was actually so good concept wise. (personally, I don't mind the Off-beat rap made on purpose. Eminem did the same thing dissing someone about being off-beat, while rapping off-beat to show his point). 6. Abrupt ending. Like the story, the song ended so quickly, coz, then again one-night stand that signifies a sweet but fast type of love/song. Fun facts: -Yes most fires here were real, and they just thought of it during the set. Soojin's elevator/lobby scene is one example. -And about Soyeon walking in the hallway at the beginning, yes those are real explosions. During the shoot, she was somehow startled by those and had to repeat the take. But she was professional and learned fast. -Since those explosions were real, one spark actually flew into Soyeon's hair and burnt it, but she did not flinch, and continued the shoot. She later then found out that the damage was bigger than expected, and had to cut her hair (reason why she got short hair in Lion, OMG, Uh-Oh). -Soyeon partnered with a Latin/Brazilian producer to really get the vibes of Latin, and the voice of the man as well. -The girls never said the title "Senorita" in this song. -Soyeon was into Latin contents and was inspired by it to create this song (as well as LATATA). Soyeon thought of the chorus brass instrumentals while commuting home. And immediately create a song. -The girls only won 1 award with this song. They knew about the comments about it, and instead of pouting, they even made it a joke in one of their series (SECRET FOLDER).

I'm still very on the fence about off-beat rapping. On the one hand, its a showcase of the talent of the rapper, as they're actively staying ahead of the beat which shows their lack of dependence on the it to "guide" them through the song. On the other hand, like you said, it sounds so unusual that it catches me off guard. I just want to vibe to some tunes man, I already know you're crazy talented 😔

I read that Yuqi's "foo foo" is supposed to be the trumpet sound that is played mainly in the choir. If you listen carefully, that part of the song is the same as the trumpet, only now the "foo foo" replaces it. It is similar to Hann's chorus, they mimic the whistle. Watching this with tears in my eyes. The news that Soojin left (G)I-DLE is breaking my heart in thousand pieces. I hope she will stay mentally strong. Soojin was my bias and she will still be in the future. This innocent, lovely and shy girl didn't deserve to leave. Her whole career was ruined by some stupid rumours.
