Finally View!! Thank youuu View is written by Jonghyun, the lyrics are inspired by neurological condition when people see shapes of music, or colors of words and names. The styling in the MV is by Key It was the first time SM gave them the freedom to choose the concept, song, MV location, basically everything. Since View they have a lot of creative freedom Taemin said that he decided to try something like Move because of View choreography. View was their first "chill" title track and choreo since Lucifer, Taemin was cautious about it at first but after performing it he realized that the choreography isn't always supposed to be intense and exhausting to be good and compliment the song well View introduced some new things to kpop: deep house as genre and an aesthetic different from the uniforms and custom made costumes which almost all groups wore at that time (and which SM actually wanted SHINee to wear for View as well). Of course now it's very common and okay to wear casual and baggy clothes for idols, but at that time it was "weird", they even felt uncomfortable standing on stage in those outfits with other artists haha

sometime in 2015 a listener of Jonghyun’s blue night wrote him a letter saying she have a condition called “synesthesia” where she visualize music as a certain colour. She mentioned Jjong’s voice is like a golden colour. “An autumn sunlight”. This became Jonghyun’s inspiration writing SHINee’s View. Please listen to Before our Spring. It’s a good one too. The music video is kinda special, in the way that it has special meaning... basically it's SHINee getting kidnapped by their fans but they actually end up enjoying their freedom and refuse to be found by police. But they also experience too much freedom with their newfound maturity and get in all kinds of trouble due to their youthful naivety.

It's interesting how you tried to divide their songs into two sides or brighter/darker qualities. I guess one could technically do so because they have so many songs released but in terms of concept they don't have two clear sides like some other groups do. The thing about SHINee is that they always come back with something new and that new has often started trends or brought something entirely fresh into the Kpop scene such as View with the uk garage/deep house genre, or 1 of 1 retro concept in 2016 before everyone started doing it few years later. That's what their experimentalism is all about, they have tried out countless of different concepts, genres, sounds and whatnot. All of that makes them a unique group that they are with one of the most eclectic and amazing discographies out there.

The thing that you brought up about the MV being reminiscant of Taeyeon's Why is a great observation. Another one that is even more stylistically similar to View is Taemin's Press Your Number, because they both have that white frame around them while most often it's black or it's absent. I think during this time period (2015-2016) SM was obsessed with this specific aesthetic style and color palette. All of these and some others such as f(x)'s 4 walls or Taeyeon's 'I' had a very similar look or a 'filter' to them, pastel colors were dominant which is still sort of on the bright side but not in your face type of bright or too vivid. I personally really like them.

AARON I AM SO HAPPY YOU REACTED TO THIS ONE!!! FINALLYYYYY!!! View is just such a classic and is probably the most popular SHINee song among the non-Shawols (but ofc shawols love it too). Again, they made this song baaack in 2015, where Jonghyun wrote the lyrics and kibum picked the outfits for mv and stages. It's the first deep house song in Kpop. An absolute summer must have!
