For people interested in playing theremin. It only costs a tiny more, but Burns sells their B3 Theremin. Which is a no-frills theremin but with proper loop and rod antennas. For quite a bit less they sell a simple Zep-style theremin with just a rod antenna. You'd have to add pedals to get reverb and echo effects either way. The Stylophone Theremin is cool because it has the slider note that works as a reference or drone as well. With a really nicely modulated square wave sound and cool built-in effects. For a theremin antenna circuit, battery powered is WAY simpler to deal with. Getting interference from switching power supplies is going to be a real pain for the end user, so I suspect Dubreq intentionally left out external power. I bed adding CV inputs would be a very straight-forward mod for this.

I got one, its pretty good, it's as close to a theremin as I could afford. It has a screw hole underneath for a camera tripod I think. I think I have a tripod in my cupboard buried under a load of stuff so I'll need to dig it out! Great review!
Give it a while then we can start getting used models and adding mains power without voiding the warranty!

I definitely would have loved CV I/O and additional audio input on this. Looking forward to seeing if you find patchpoints on the circuit to hack!

Analogue theremins contain no VCO and thus can not be easily voltage controlled. They produce the tone from the difference between 2 RF frequencies. The theremin cello (websearch it) AFAIK added some kind of voltage control to this principle, which however was complex. Likely they made it battery-only to avoid RFI (in both directions) because everything else would complicate the hardware substantially. What sucks is that it has no 2nd antenna for realtime volume control, or can the slide potentiometer be properly used for this?

Nice ❤ I was wondering when it would finally be available. I think hating christmas is inherent at being involved with instrument making. 😂 Locking up myself in my workshop as well, finally time to make some crazy things.

Mine arrived yesterday (we have Sunday post this Xmas). I would be very interested in a mod board if you do one! Otherwise my Teleblender says hello from Tasmania ;)
