The 580 is the same as the 780 just smaller, otr700 was on sale at Amazon for 299 , the only difference besides speed I can tell between the 580 and the otr700 is the popular truck route feature which is cool when you get off the highway. If the price is similar go with the otr series now since it is 2022 .. Good review

I have both. The Garmin and rand McNally. Garmin is far more accurate and trustworthy to me. The rand McNally looses its bearing a lot. Thinks it’s on a side road. Some features are better. @bigginztrucking46982 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack! Thanks for watching. A “hidden” feature in the software that nobody really uses is the “Trip Planner” app that you can find when you hit the “ Where to” on the Home Screen. You will find it listed somewhere around recents, saved, address etc. With that you can plan A to B points on specific trips and edit how you want that route to run. It takes some playing with to get used to it but I had an entire 5 day week set up including my favorite places to park and fuel when I ran my north east dedicated run a couple years ago. You can make the trips accordingly so all you have to do once you’ve done the work of programming it is select it from the list and drive on driver.

Does your unit have voice command phone dialling? I bought a 780 in the UK when it came out and this feature, despite having been in the 770 (their previous 7in truck sat-nav), was mysteriously missing and enquiries to Garmin revealed that it had been removed intentionally. I sent it back and bought a 580 which still has this feature. I believe that it was somehow not compatible with their new Android operating system base which isn't on the 580. The Amazon listing for this unit still claims it has voice dialling though.

In my opinion the new 700 seems like a decent value however it’s not rugged like the Dezl 780. I have had an issue here and there with my 780 losing satellite signal but not enough for me to change it out. I really like how rugged the 780 is because if I ever need to carry it in a bag or something like that I don’t have to really treat it like a tablet. The new ones seem to be built softer in my opinion.

@DEMONX2123 жыл бұрын
Avoid ANY Rand McNally GPS's (I had the Over Dryver 7). 1) They are unreliable in navigation 2) Post false restrictions on a TON of routes when route planning 3) Most times the GPS will lose signal on wide open highways/roads and in many cases I had to solve that by turning the gps off then on again 4) You can pluck the GPS off the magnet mount 5) Not so sturdy and can damage it easy if the mount keeps failing P.S.: don't let the addition of Sirius XM rope you into buying the Rand McNally. Because if your housing mount breaks, you will no longer be able to connect to your XM radio feature. Heard the Garmin and TomTom's are the best GPS's to stick with.

@@bigginztrucking4698 Awesome breakdown on the video, driver! @JoseRodriguez-fy8pg6 ай бұрын
When you put in your route , it should ask you do you want to take the route with or without tolls it’s yes or no , if the route doesn’t have tolls it won’t pop up and ask you only routes with tolls

53 is the length is trailer and adding the tractor its like 70 to 80, I saw you put 60
@bigginztrucking46983 жыл бұрын
You are correct on all counts. That was a recommendation I got from long time Garmin users. Putting the true length seems to confuse the unit sometimes and it will send you around routes that you actually could have taken. Of course with the Garmin being one of many tools for route planning I have found this to be helpful along the way. However, I did not mention it in the video because results may vary.

@@bigginztrucking4698 oh, thanks I didn't know that. 😅
@bigginztrucking46983 жыл бұрын
Yea it seems to work for me. Of course as I said in conjunction with other routing tools. Usually in the areas I drive the only true “over length” issues have been very winding mountain roads that have about 11 signs before you get to it saying what lengths are allowed on that road.

Just purchased one 2 weeks ago. I don’t know if it is just me but it won’t pick almost 25 percent of the addresses I punch in . Please help me out if someone faced the same problem
@direwolf6184 жыл бұрын
Plug your addresses into Google Earth. Zoom in on the address. Find the truck entrance. Place a pushpin in the truck entrance. Right click the pushpin and select properties from the context menu. Then input the GPS coordinates into your Garmin. Your Garmin will then route and guide you directly to that truck entrance. Personally, I never enter addresses. I always enter GPS coordinates as I just explained above because it is always 100 percent accurate. Good luck.

can this track IFTA miles
@bigginztrucking46983 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. There is an Ifta tracking program built in. I do not use it but I have looked at it and it seems pretty easy to use. You can view various quarters or the entire year. And it seems to keep track of how many miles were spent on toll roads as well but I am unsure of how accurate that is.

I have always had the same thought. But I guess that’s less of an issue these days. Even cell phone manufacturers like Apple make magnetic chargers for their phones. I really don’t know when that pendulum swung to the other side really.

Just purchased this device and have almost thrown it out the window twice. Okay. First linked it to wifi to update, boom, screen went blank with glitch and I thought it was dead. 2nd: first run it got lost and took all the wrong roads. 3rd: I am not linking to my phone ever. If I wanted my phone to find routes then I would google maps a route. 4th. The device beeped constantly warning "red light cameras "... dumb. Red light cameras are programmed for cars and DO NOT APPLY TO RIGS! 5th: the hours of service NOT NEEDED at all. Hello. It's a GPS not an e-log... stop programming extra crap...
