We stayed at The Fives all-inclusive resort for the second time, and while there were some highlights, it’s probably going to be our last visit.
The Room
We stayed in a suite with a pull-out sofa for the kids and a king-sized bed. The bed was comfortable, but nothing exceptional. Storage was great, with two spacious closets, but the real standout was the balcony. The sitting area overlooking the ocean was stunning and easily the best part of the room. Unfortunately, the hot tub on the balcony didn’t live up to expectations-it wasn’t hot, wasn’t large enough for two people, and felt more like an afterthought than a luxury feature. For the price, a proper tub in the bathroom and a real hot tub on the balcony would have been appreciated.
Dining
Breakfast was a high point. The blueberry and hibiscus pancakes were absolutely delicious, as were the fruit and yogurt dishes. The chicken and waffles were fine, but not extraordinary. We ordered one dish that didn’t meet the mark, and if you’ve seen our video, you’ll know what to avoid. Overall, the restaurant was good but didn’t offer Mexican cuisine, which might be disappointing for those expecting local flavors.
Entertainment
The highlight of our stay was the Mayan show by La Luna del Jaguar, which happens only on Fridays. The performers were amazing, friendly, and engaging even after the show. Look them up on Instagram (@la_luna_del_jaguar) and give them a follow-they’re worth supporting.
Overall Experience
This resort had a different vibe from our first stay. While the staff was pleasant, the overall service and property maintenance had declined. For a resort at this price point, we expected more attention to detail and a higher level of service. Unfortunately, the place now has a "we'll get to it when we get to it" feel, which is fine at more budget-friendly accommodations, but not at a high-end property like this.
Final Verdict
For the cost, The Fives Oceanfront doesn’t deliver the luxury experience it promises. While the views and breakfast were memorable, the disappointing hot tub, lack of a proper tub in the bathroom, and the general decline in service mean we won’t be staying here again. For the same price-or even less-you can find better options elsewhere in Mexico, and we’ll be opting for something more authentic and local next time.
