I wanted to say that am so thankful that you have a channel! This is really great insight for future applicants and especially for myself, a future transfer applicant (hopefully accepted). I really want to go to Rice and I have been dying to find channels dedicated to the school or students’ experiences there, so thank you again !! :)

There are study spots at Rice. It’s just not official. There’s quite spots all over the place.

This is great. My wife and I are alums and son is a sophomore this year. Have to grin at your non-stem course load. It's not physics, chemistry, and differential equations the first semester? :) I think there was a semester with 18 hours and Fluid Dynamics which blew my fuse.
@ohkaren2 жыл бұрын
haha thank goodness i don’t have to see physics ever again 😎 hope you have a great day!

hii! I want to apply to rice next year but I was just wondering how the location is there? Like are there places to go to during weekends, is it safe to walk at night, and is it super hot there? also is it super competitive academically?
@ohkaren3 жыл бұрын
hi ! i lived in houston my whole life and i think it's a pretty great city :) there's a ton of food to try, museums, zoo, and shopping areas. like other big cities you probably shouldn't walk at night alone but within campus it's very safe it gets pretty hot and humid in the summer (like 90-100 degrees) but it does cool down in october i think it's academically competitive with yourself and doing the best you can but definitely NOT with your classmates. there's no cutthroat competition and the learning environment is very encouraging where everyone wants to help each other out hope this helped!! good luck :D

"No fast food restaurant that is less than a 10 minute walk". LOL I guess Chipotle, Poke Bowl, and Halal Guys at the hospitals-area, two stops on a tram, free for undergrads, from Brown College, doesn't count.
@ohkaren Жыл бұрын
those are good oc options but i was referring to having convenient options on campus like other colleges do! lots of other schools have starbucks or chick fila on campus. either way it's highly unlikely the availability of fast food options is a the deciding factor 😄
@stevenluo9516 Жыл бұрын
@@ohkaren Barring chaus (better than starbucks hehe), Rice (retail and servery) dining are the best (at inspiring you to look for off-campus options).

Do you think that if you had a car, it would make studying easier?
@ohkaren3 жыл бұрын
yes for sure! i think i would've drove to coffee shops. also the commons and a lot of other places were closed/a lot of people didn't use it bc of covid

hi! i was just wondering if you are an international student? if so, are there any differences as a student in rice uni?
@ohkaren2 жыл бұрын
im not an international student but i think compared to high school, there's a lot more opportunities at rice both academically and socially. ex: basically a club for every interest and lots of parties :D so you can try everything and see what you like

Damn…. This sounds kinda sad knowing that the norm is paying about $60K in tuition fees just to do school online… To me seems like college is even more of a scam

any advice in picking majors/minors in rice uni?
@ohkaren2 жыл бұрын
i would try all the classes that you're interested in! at rice you can basically take any class you want so i would take advantage of that : ) also join clubs that are in different areas of study and talk to upperclassmen and professors ! 😎
@FergusScotchman2 жыл бұрын
The path will be quite different if you are looking for a science/engineering degree or a more humanities based degree. The great thing about Rice is that you don't have to declare your final major until the end of your sophomore year, so you get plenty of time to explore different curricula.
