Gymkata is my all-time favourite so bad it's good film. All-time. It took me ages to find it on DVD back in the 2000s, and I had to get it from Germany in the end. Doesn't matter. Greatest film starring a non-acting American gymnast with a pommel horse randomly in the middle of a medieval town ever.

I have a special memory of this movie. Back in my country, there was a TNT satellite station that showed old movies all day long. My parents caught this movie one afternoon and watched the heck out of it. Sadly, I wasn't home at the time and only got a glimpse of the last 12 minutes of the movie. I was so intrigued that from then until the end of the year, I monitored that channel faithfully and obsessively trying to catch a rerun. Sadly it never happened and I never got to enjoy this masterpiece in time.

MST3K, RedLetterMedia, and now Honest Trailers all recognizing the greatness that is Gymkata. I had a VHS of it back in the 80s and would rewind the pommel horse scene for all the sick moves. My friend and I tried to mimic some of the attacks on the couch, coffee table, and carpet in front of the TV and failed gloriously. Great memories of the definitive "it's so bad that it's good" movie.

There is one shining scene in this movie when they actually did a pretty good job at building suspense. It's when Kurt is totally exhausted and almost about to fall down to the alley full of crazies and everything is in slow motion. Used to freak me out when I was a kid watching this at night on TBS.

I remember seeing the poster for this movie in the video rental store. It was several months later when I finally got a chance to see it. And it was…. There. I thought I missed something or was too young to get it. Nope.
