In Despicable Me (or the source source material for those who know), Gru says that he made the minions from his DNA so they would follow him blindly and were disposable, basically. He MADE THEM IN A LAB LIKE A VILLAIN, which makes sense. I know it matters not to most, nor should it, but I love the first movie. This origin story schtick is blatant cash grab, imo. Why they can't make fart jokes AND uphold their own lore is a mystery. Big ups to the action stars getting a check though. 😉👌 EDIT: In the spirit of providing receipts to my statement, I looked in the 1st (and 2nd) movie for the scene I'm referring to....and found nothing of the sort. 🤔 Idk WHERE THE F*CK I GOT THAT if it's not a thing. I saw it in the theaters initially. I distinctly remember Gru making an aside and saying they were derived from his DNA. It's implied then, that's why they are all male, wear protective gear-accident prone-and are disposable. Because he can make more. Let me know if you remember anything like this. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills a bit. 😳😂

Minions are a fun punctuation to other stuff that's happening, but not really feature length film grade to me...but I'm not hating on anyone who enjoys them. So much of this movie seems like people at a Illumination story-writing meeting yelled the first random idea they got, and a lead went "YES, PERFECT, let's go with that!".
